Lonsdale Belt and EBU for sale

Im thinking of selling my genuine RARE, Rocky Balboa belt that he wore in Rocky 3. I was offered 2k last year by a bloke in a Merc, I told him to eff off and threw it over my shoulder and walked on!

I think the collateral comes down to who held them or owned them I suppose.
The mckenzies are well known but I don't think Clinton is widely celebrated he did fight sugar ray in the ams gave him a good contest I believe & looked a definite world beater by all accounts.

Love the Lonsdale belt but if you haven't won it or been given it as a gift from a winner you have no right to hold it unless you see it as a commodity you can earn on.

clinton mckenzie always loved money over boxing . he and duke took over my X amateur club which had been going for years and 2 years later there was no boxing club but there was 30 new flats built on the gym . the term would sell his own granny comes to mind .

Ebu old school I'd say is worth dollar back in 81 when you had hearns fighting sugar ray for the world title if say boxing was jighly competitive & belts hard to win.
I'd say 2-3 grand Alan minters one must be worth a few grand to the right buyer

Im not saying its not worth what they are selling it for but i just really dislike the design and compared to the lonsdale belt which in theory is a lesser title it looks disapointing

Growing up I remember sports shops & pie & mash shops with photos of your British & European champions & I loved the British proudly round the waist with the stretchy ebu strapped across them as if to say yeah Europe taking care of aswell & literally meant you was world class.
I know what your saying about looks etc but no belt matches up to the Lonsdale!!!the greatest belt home of boxing from the marquis of queensbury an antique vintage worthy of royalty looking trophy!!

i know that he promised to keep croydon boxing club open then sold the land for a figure in the millions ,no doubt he was just a middle man as he doesn't have the money to do it himself ,oh then open another gym around the corner and charged kids £10 a training session when the original one was free to kids .

Sounds a bit like what The Kronx done to St Pancras ABA, they promised everything. Once they where in there they started charging silly prices to train etc, ended up taking over the whole gym and booting St Pan out Cost St Pan 70k in court cases to get them out years later...

Johnsy left years before all the court cases started... He's got a few quid tho
They have some really good people behind them, 3 years ago it only had a year left on the least, wasn't looking good for the gym, but they got together ended up buying the land, built 6 flats and the whole basement a boxing gym, it the nuts been reopened a year now,.. 2 rings 25 odd bags running machines. weights etc etc all brand new gear..

Now it will be there for another 100 years

Back on thread - what do you think the Lonsdale belt is worth? I can't see anyone paying 9k for it to be honest. I would think nearer 6k?

When was the last time there was a new edition of the belt? I think the BBBofC should limit each edition to perhaps 10 belts.

Hang on to it for as long as you can (hopefully you can pass it on to your kids). Almost without exception those who sell their belts need the money to pay the bills and if that's the case fair enough - like you say, they'll regret it, but you don't need a belt to keep your trousers up if you're starving. Hopefully you'll never find yourself in that position.

I know what u mean mate, I have put mine away now so will keep it there til my kids are older. Gonna decide weather to defend again soon with my trainer as I'm fighting nov 30th asking as my jaw heals ok

Not sure why anyone would sell their belts unless they were in terrible financial problems. Its something to pass onto your kids for generations. I thought they were worth £5k. I don't see them being worth 10k. The board couldn't afford to produce them at that cost.

I also cannot see why an individual would want to but one for themselves. It would mean nothing to me to buy a Lonsdale or any type of belt. I didn't win it and it's no achievement to buy one.

frankie did you get a belt with the commonwealth title ? a mate of mine got a cup/trophy but no belt , he wanted a belt but he got a cup, i'm sure i've seen a commonwealth belt before .

yes, the commonwealth title is brown leather with rainbow coloured ribbons.

Back in Benn's era they had cups (there's a photo somewhere of him with it on his head) but these days it's a belt, dark leather with a big rainbow thing on it.

The EBU belt used to be quite a thin thing with the EBU middle bit looking like a belt buckle but these days it looks like all the other belts, albeit in blue leather.
