Re: journeyman turned into contender/champion
Carl Thompson, he was beaten a few times and was 'the away fighter' often.

Re: journeyman turned into contender/champion
Lee Murtagh, granted he was never a journeyman but the way people were talking about him and made him out to be a journeyman fighter was insulting and I was ecstatic when he won the Irish light middleweight title and proved his critics wrong and having recently fought Hector Camacho junior in his first fight outside the UK and Camacho still outweighed him by more than 10lbs and the fight still went ahead now if Murtagh isn't deserving of being called a champion who is ?

Anyone mentioned Kerry Hope?
Re: journeyman turned into contender/champion
Braddock was up and down wasn't he? Got a shot at the light heavyweight title in the late twenties as a promising contender, his career went down the pan and made a sensational comeback after believed to be washed up. Great story I think, not many people would get a second chance like that.Old bones Ian wrote:I guess the most famous would have to be Jim Braddock

And? If this forum was on the go in those days, a few would have still insisted he was a journeyman!SamWise72 wrote:Duke McKenzie was undefeated when he won his world title.
