Don't get me wrong I'd be lying if I said im comfortable at 175lbs.. What I will say though is that I don't dry out and I eat on the day of a weigh in.. (Pre weigh in).. If cruiser was 13st 8 then I would consider moving but the gap is huge between 175lbs and 200lbs..
I know when I have a good camp and do things correctly I feel great in the fights but I've also done the weight wrong in the past so know its a double edged sword and you must plan and prepare your camps perfectly otherwise it can and probably will end in disaster..

What do you walk around at mate? I agree 25lbs is an awful lot of weight. I preferred it when the limit was 190lbs.
In between fights I go to 185lbs but I'm slightly heavier this time, I needed the longer rest as I'd boxed 5 championship distance fights in the space of 16 months.. It's the camps that hurt you not the fights to be honest.. I love fight nights, I live for that feeling but like I said the camps are the real drain..

.. Could be far worse though, I could be back in the pillow factory and on the door on the weekend..

Do you think you'd ever do something like Holyfield, Spinks and Hopkins and pile on muscle to move up in weight?

I've learned the hard way mate, like I said I'm slightly heavier now 189lbs to be exact but ill be back to normal by the end of next week.. I don't believe in going into camp to lose weight. I go into camp to improve my game and work on the tactics to beat whoever we come up against. So much work and Graft goes into a camp that the last thing you need to be doing is dragging loads of weight off.. Like I said I don't dry out and eat on the day of a weigh in.. I have a fantastic team around me and they make it a lot easier to prepare..

In all honesty I shouldn't be mentioned with names like that... I can easily compete at cruiser but heavy?? I don't know? Everything has a price and he'd have to be a small damn heavy..

How tall are you Tony? You do seem massive for a light heavy, especially in terms of height.

Yeah that's more the height of a cruiser than a light heavy so must be tough getting down to 175!

Just meant adding 20lbs of muscle to cruiser, or do you think it's detrimental. I kind of feel Holy was worse off with all the muscle he added.

I'd look a lot better but as far as being a better fighter is concerned then I don't see how it would? I'd bang on between 10/15pds of muscle when I do eventually move up.. My strength & conditioning coach would prefer me at cruiser.. He's purely a strength coach though and has no real knowledge of the fight game, he only cares about myself in that field..

Whats your take on the Cleverley situation bomber? Sorry if ive missed comments elsewhere or if you would rather say nothin on the subject but has a rematch with him lost its appeal to you now or would you still like that to happen?
Fully understand if a 'No Comment' answer comes back. Lol

Alexis Arguello for my money is another who hit harder as he moved up the weights, but then again he got with Eddie Futch (by the time he hit lightweight, iirc) so it might just have been the old master bringing out what was naturally there--fine-tuning his footwork so he could get all that power into his shots.
Oh, & JMM sat down far more on his punches after the first Pacquiao fight, knocked a lot more guys out.

Yeah you do look pretty skinny at light heavy and those extra pounds would be beneficial. Saying that though, it is a big jump in weight like you say.

I only worry about my concerns mate..I'm part of a great team and if they see it as something down the line then so be it.. I was so he'll bent on fighting him cos he held a world title.. That's not the case anymore BUT I'm still trying everything possible to become a world champion.. I'm sure once I am things will change.. Until then it's "No Comment"

That's fair enough haha. What about Kovalev though? Would you be willing to fight him or being completely honest do you think he's too dangerous?

One thing I know about Bomber is that he fears no-one. Whether that is a good or bad thing remains to be seen. He is as brave as they come.

You know me too well my friend, He's just a man with 2 arms like me pal.. Even better that he's not a slippery southpaw who likes to run away.. He is the perfect person I'd choose to fight in all honesty, A puncher who takes every risk in the book to land his own..

Kovalev doesn`t look like a guy who takes every risk in the book to land his own. He looks like an excellent boxer who does not leave himself wide open, but applies constant controlled pressure until he gets to the guy he`s fighting.

Got to admire that

..... Ps dont underestimate Stevenson, Tony. Since hooking up with Steward *RIP* and the kronx he's become a much more rounded boxer/puncher. He's no Pernell Whitaker admittedly but he can box to a plan. If you havent already seen it which im you probably have, watch his fight with Don George. He boxed a very measured fight. Anyway all im saying is dont think he's purely a big puncher with no boxing skills at all.

Herol Graham as a light middle was 25-0 with 9 KO's, after moving up to middle he went 19-5 with 17 KO's. This may of been more to do with a slight change in style to land more heavier blows.

You don't become world champion for nothing but I believe I'm far better than Don George and I believe I hit a bit harder than him.. Ill be very aware of what Stevenson brings to the ring but I just believe my time has finally come..

I think this is right on the money. So many boxers seem to still make the mistake of not following this philosophy and because they blow up in weight in between camps, lose valuable time focusing on weight loss rather than skills.

I watched Ricky train with Billy on numerous occasions, well over 20 times.. I never ever seen them doing stuff for losing weight really, he trained with Billy like a maniac! He was amazingly fit he really was.. I believe Ricky and Billy were made for each other and that without each other they wouldn't of got half as far as they did.
I look back at the way they worked together in that gym it was like they could connect with each other without saying a word, Ricky always blew up after fights which everyone knows but as for weight management through a camp, I doubt very few were better than him.. Add to that he had Kerry Kayes who is for an absolute master at diets and losing weight thing..
I think the only detriment the blowing up and down done is shorten the actual career IMO but then again he was financially secure and had done more than he ever dreamed he would do so would have probably gotten out anyway, I know I personally would of.. Great fighter and I promise you you'll never see a fan base like that travel to Vegas or anywhere else again for that matter..
