I think Franny Smith is a pretty good trainer and him and Price did seem to have a good bond but the way he lost control of the corner in the rematch with Thompson was unnacceptable and Davids alarming rate of fatigue has to be adressed pronto
I dont think Lennox helped though to be fair! Franny was trying to give instructions and Lennox was shouting over the top of him. Also I dont think it was smart to tell him to get up off the stool when he was clearly exhausted! Saying that though I understand Price needs to take action.
Yeah as much as a legend Lennox Lewis is,Franny should have told him to sshhh, absolute bedlam which is the No1 rule for any trainer surely,no more than 1 voice in the corner, especially when a fighters hurt, cardinal sin IMO

As much as i like him Ive noticed Dean Powells bad for that, shouting over the trainer, its a no no
but he needed to when cleverly fought as vinny clev didnt have a clue, telling nathan his lateral movement was "superb" when he wasnt moving anywhere

You're absolutely right, he does. I always notice that. It isn't impressive and must be so annoying for the fighter's trainer.
I can’t wait for Price’s career to start again.

He has a lot going for him. He has weaknesses but I think he can improve on them.

Price is a great fighter to follow. He’s likeable. He hits hard. He’s not unbeatable.

When you follow a boxer, the ups and downs…the highs and lows…are what makes it so rewarding.

That was an excellent article. The kind of thing most sports writers ignore. Thanks so much.

Read your piece on Fury and Haye in Box News or Monthly (can’t remember which…)…what are your thoughts on this fight and how do you think the two fighters are shaping up psychologically for the battle?

Do you believe Price will rise again and maybe fight the one or both of them at some point?

Franny had done nothing wrong except allow Maloney to bring in Lennox Lewis. Lennox is not even a trainer so why was he needed, nor is maloney although he thinks he knows everything about training. I trained Julius Francis for years and when we fought Tyson, Maloney brought Harold Knight in, Lewis's co trainer, because he thought he was a good american trainer and would add something to the camp. No disrespect to Harold but it done f....all for us.The bond was with Julius and me, no one else. The fault is not with Franny but with the Management who usually get to call the shots, Maloney got it wrong. Price can come back with Fran as well as with any other decent trainer he works with. If it goes tits up dont blame the trainer David, look at other things. Good luck to both of them.

Terry is my favourite current sports writer bar none. He works very hard on his craft and only rarely do I reach the end of one of his articles without having taken something from it. People with a desire to see boxing well represented at the highbrow end of national media could do worse than sing his praises.
 I'll Paypal you.

Ez, I did Peter for BM and it’s since been put on the ‘Scene. Tyson and Haye are interesting guys, you get the sense that both are mentally tough, but with the odd chink in the armour. One of Haye’s great gifts is his single-mindedness, but it can veer into a negative form of stubbornness if left unchecked and it made it easier for Wlad pre-fight. I think Booth’s good for him in this respect.

Tyson’s going to be a tough nut to crack mentally as he believes he’s fulfilling a divine purpose and is genetically predisposed to fighting, and winning fights, so you’re going to have to really break him to beat him, but once beaten it might be a long round back, unless it’s on points or a controversial stoppage.

Peter’s a great addition, he’s a relative newcomer yet he has the magic eye when it comes to corner work and, similar to Haye and Booth, it seems the perfect union of boxer and trainer. I’ve done a bit with Billy Graham about the respective corners. I’ll post the link once it goes live.

The Peter Fury article was a bit of an open goal, to be honest, as he people were asking questions about his former life anyway so it was just a question of contacting him and asking if he’d like to address those questions before the national press started digging. He said “Yes” without a moment’s hesitation and was an open book, which is good for a lazy dude like me.

Here’s the ‘Scene version: http://www.BS.com/peter-fury-o ... ter--69242.
You dont really need to break Tyson mentally. Just knock him out cold. Doesnt matter how strong you are mentally in that situation.

Mark, your situation was a little different but there are definitely similarities. I have no idea what Frank was thinking bringing in 'The Shadow' for the Tyson fight, it made no sense and I remember thinking at the time that if I were in your shoes I'd be livid. With Price, bringing in Lennox as a mentor wasn't a bad idea in principle. His interference mid-fight though was almost criminal and if Lennox doesn't realise that himself now he's not as switched on as I think he is.

Do you not agree that if Price himself reasons that a move away from Franny is in his best interests that he'd be a fool to stay?
I,m not saying that isn't the case but it shouldn't be for the wrong reasons. You would have to look at if there were problems between them before. If you judge that on previous performances you would have to say no. Price's first loss happened, full stop. That's Heavyweight boxing. Where was the rebuild? Maloney made the match not Fran Smith. No i think its back to the gym for both of them together and look at putting what is wrong right. If that does not work then look at the alternatives. What most people don't seem to acknowledge is that champions are not made from winning everything. I've got Tom Dallas out tomorrow, he has come on since he's losses, its all about the learning curve. Big surprise for someone?
