I always found the rule that lost Lloyd Honeyghan his world title odd, the WBC ruled that if there was an unintentional headclash and 1 of the boxers was injured and couldn't continue, then the boxer not injured would get a point deducted from his score, and the fight would go to the scorecards.

So through no fault of his own (except he underperformed) Honeyghan lost a point, and this was the difference between getting a draw and losing on a TD.

I think the WBC have now changed this rule.

One rule i'd like cleared up is that i've seen 9-9 rounds given, think there was one in khan/peterson, but I always thought one had to be 10 (10-point must).
There have been 9-8 rounds in the past as well.
you win the round and get a point taken off its 9-9. score a KD and lose a point it'll most likely be 9-8.
Didn't this happen with Moorer v Holyfield? Holyfield knocked Moorer down, but MM battered him in that round and won the round.

Still the rule, only to be applied on occasion though.

That sounds like it could apply to Terry O'Connor.

If a boxer is knocked down within say 5 seconds of the bell going to end the round, the timekeeper will begin the count and will continue the count but still ring the bell to signify the end of the round. If the ref deems that the boxer is able to continue he'll signify this , and at that the round ends. This is also the case in the last round .So in theory a boxer can hear the final bell but still be counted out.
This means that a boxer can be counted out at 3.06 secs of the last round for instance.
The danger here is that cornermen might enter the ring on hearing the bell, even though the refs still counting, and technically that's a disqualification.
It is also considered a knockdown if a boxer is being supported by the ropes after being hit eg sitting on the bottom rope and its the timekeepers job to start the count.

Read the small print Jeff..'unless such an opportunity arises upon the bell for a minutes break then thou shalt bang away vigorously (especially the Top Rank ladies)'
