Its funny how an interesting thread posted by Ezzard can be hijacked, and filled up by more fantastic observations by Le Douche, and this seems to be all nice and fine with certain people on here. Yet if one is to come into this forum and give a point of view about this situation one is accused of acting 'hatefully' and the aforementioned thread is closed down. My it is great to see that free speech is all well and dandy in here if your talking complete bollxx and yet if you come in and give a dissenting voice to the status Quo in here then you are offending people.

Regarding Machen vs Liston I have it on good account that Machen had his arm ripped off from his shoulder by a particularly ferocious neighbours poodle just six weeks prior to the Liston fight. Yes they were able to sew it back on and cover the resulting scar with makeup but alas Eddie was not quite 100% for the fight!. Some guys get all the breaks I guess.

Honestly, it sucks opening a thread like this and seeing the same shit going on. I agree with you there. But the attacks aren't coming from the guy catching all the blame. He's actually talking about Liston, misguided as he may be. You should just put him on ignore if it bothers you that much.

As for the freedom of speech. That's absurdly melodramatic. A few people are overly bothered, most are not and the few are bothered that the rest of us aren't bothered. Sorry man, that's sobbing and it's become redundant as hell.

In that case why do you come in wringing your hands every time Funso, Klompton or myself says anything about the dribble Le Douche is coming out with?. Take your own advise and just ignore us. Obviously you'd rather read Douches posts uninterrupted :)

Our only conversation on the topic was in a thread about the topic yet you accuse me of running around commenting every time you guys are at with Il Duce. That's a lie, I'm not even apart of those Ali threads. In this situation, Funso is a complete troll. That was about him more than Il Duce. Then Klompton addressed me and I defended myself.

You came in here and commented on what I said when I hadn't said anything to you, then you are calling me a hypocrite and liar. I ve got no interest in spending all my time arguing but am puzzled as to why if you are never in Douches threads how it is you keep popping up here. My point earlier was that this was an interesting thread and Douche came in and hijacked it with his inane posts. That was going to be my final word in here till you came in and started accusing me of lying and being a hypocrite (which actually makes you sound quite girly yourself). Also if you never read Douches posts then how do you know how good or bad they are?...

First off, no need for the passive aggressive BS. I'm the one you had a debate with about the topic. I'm not a fool, I know what "certain people on here" means. No big deal, but at least be honest.

Check Il Duce's threads if you wan to. You're in them enough to complain about them. I don't post in those threads but once in a blue moon. I had several arguments with him and that was enough for me.

This isn't an Il Duce thread, neither was the other one we had words in. I called you a hypocrite and a liar because at the moment that's exactly what you are.

I think Mike Tyson said it best when reviewing the Ali vs Liston fight...he said that Ali made Liston like he was from another era...

When I was first getting into boxing I became fascinated with Liston..read every article..read a couple of books that were out on him. He was awesome sounding and the mystique surrounding him was huge. I began searching for footage of him as I, like most others, had only see the Ali and Patterson fights. I soon obtained from America his fights with Roy Harris and second Cleveland Williams fight. . . he was huge (for the day) and menacing and scowling...I became obsessed with collecting his footage to see if the fighter that I read so much matched what I saw on the screen.

I feel his intimidation factor, his myth, his hulking physique added very much to his overall performances in that some of his opponents were defeated before the bell rang....but hey..that all counts.
His left jab was tremendous and his left hook was quick and powerful...his right was a bit of a bear paw and somewhat ponderous. His chin was fantastic and his stamina good. He had huge physical advantages over his opponents with reach and weight. Whether he was one of the all time greats is open to debate like every other ATG list. I would say Liston was a top 20 guy. Unfortunately he wasn't given a shot at Patterson earlier to prove his longevity as a champion and the other unfortunate was him running into Ali...the guy from another era!

I tend to have Liston #10, but doing so I know his resume is shallow for the spot. Kind of like Willie Pep in an all time sense. You know the greatness was there, but it's not as proven as you would like it to be from a resume standpoint.

Sonny Liston was pretty good in virtually every category you could list, but not phenomenal like some people think. The idea of him beating a prime Frazier or Foreman is just absurd to me.
