Can't see that given that Clev threw very little, his output was almost entirely jabs, he focused mainly on covering up, and he stated post fight that he realized in the opening round that he'd be knocked out if Kovalev landed cleanly. His actions in the ring and his words outside the ring generally suggest he respected Kovalev's power, especially when contrasted with his usual high-volume and sometimes reckless approach.
If you're struggling to think of how he could've fought a tactically worse fight, imagine him walking straight to Kovalev from the opening bell and trading power punches without abandon in an attempt to score a stoppage .
I meant pre fight. Might have thought it was hype. People kept comparing it to Calzaghe-Lacy and maybe he bought into that himself. Im sure he knew from the first punch he was in deep sh!t.

What would the right game plan be?

Shirow wrote:Nathan comes across well again but it's clearly just his hurt pride that makes him want the rematch. That's totally understandable and it's the sort of self delusion that boxer's probably need to fight on after a big loss and their handlers need to protect them from (see Froch v Ward rematch).
Obviously any rematch in the short term (or probably ever) would be a big big mistake which i'm sure Warren won't allow if there is any money in him fighting domestically.
Agree 100% with everything you've said here.

Would like to see you train a few more top pros Billy. Get yourself over here in sunny England and open a gym.

"Jab and Grab", it'll be up there with "Rope-a-Dope" in the annals of "The Greatest Boxing Tactics of All Time".

Top gun thanks mate I've been approached about working in England by a top promoter and wouldn't rule out the idea.

Could you open a gym in London and get someone to run it? Like a fighter, a trainer needs to think about where his next fighter is coming from. You guys get paid very little (with the greatest respect). Thankfully I suspect Ricky has earned you a few quid but once he hangs up his gloves then you are back to earning smaller purses.

I'd refer him to what happened with David Price.
He should build himself up again plus LHW doesn't seem to be a talent rich division. Hopefully Bellew can win the WBC title and they can have a rematch (HOPEFULLY)
I do like Nathan he comes across as a top lad but you can tell Warren was pretty pi$$ed off after the fight at how Cleverly boxed that night.

Retire ? NO but no doubt his delusional father has once again convinced him his chin is made of granite and the shots were lucky ones that caught him. Come back clev but with someone who actually knows a little bit about boxing. Maybe even Billy Nelson :)

Billy would you agree styles make fights & there's alot to change with cleverley to make the adjustments to defeat kovalev.
I don't think any trainer could turn round that defecit straight away!!
Also billy if you could pick any British fighter to work with who would it be & why
