Hard luck Curtis but I feel he can come again. Congratulations to Derry it was a peach of a shot. To be fair he was looking class from round one; landing the cleaner and heavy looking blows and making it hard for Curtis to land cleanly.

It seems like just yesterday I was watching Derry turn pro as a bantamweight at the Guild Hall in Preston. I was sat right behind him and his mates after his fight. 10 years later and almost 50 fights in he's still knocking people out; now as a lightweight. Top man and a quality professional.

Well done, Derry. It's unlike Curtis not to give a post-fight run down on here. Hopefully he'll be a long in the next day or two and is not too down in the dumps. He's a credit to himself and the sport.

of course he deserved it! if Curtis was never a pro footballer, nobody would be saying he didn't deserve a chance at the commonwealth title against derry or anyother person who is the champion at the time!, Curtis EARNED his way to a shot

His record is perfectly fine to get a commonwealth shot in his 25th fight.

If he was Mr X from somewhere within Africa, with a comporable CV then no one bats an eye lid.

he deserved the shot and fell short against a better and more experienced boxer, i wish him well and hope he gets his dream of being british champion

Curtis is pure class everytime he opens his mouth, including his interview after the fight.

Derry was almost as classy, except when he said 'I'm not mentioning names' and 15 seconds later said 'yeh I'm talking about Crolla'.

Both fighters a credit to themselves and the sport.

Still got a shit load of man love for Curtis and look forward to seeing him out again before too long.

I only watched the fight last night as I had family commitments at the weekend.

I predicted Curtis would stop Derry late on I underestimated Derry.

I do not think Curtis looked very healthy at the weight facially he looked drawn and pasty.IMO

I know he posts and won't want people putting excuses in the air Derry won fair and square with a tremendous

ko.

I felt he was well in the fight in the 2nd and 3rd before Derry executed what he had been working on .

The fact that Derry had a strategic game plan shows the level of threat Curtis comes with.

Curtis getting up didn't surprise me he is a tough man with no quit.

I do not believe this is the end of his career as a boxer by a long shot.

Like Paul Smith said the common wealth spectrum of opponents is on many levels.

He can come again deffo and with the people he has round him he will know when to call it a day.

Because I believe he has a job inspiring people of all walks of life in what ever he chooses to do when he hangs

his gloves up.

The fact a fighter can scale in at a limit is one thing,competing is another.
Curtis will enjoy the accolades & won't give in he has still got alot to offer.

As for Derry can't believe how well he's done since coming back from retiring the fans have certainly done well out of it hats off to him.

Yeh he jumped up too quick, but I think he was genuinely scrambled so everything he was doing was just instinctive rather than being able to think about taking the count til 8 and then rising.

sorry ive not posted quicker folks but last weeks defeat hurt more than any other ive ever had, physically im fine but it really hurt my confidence and pride, no excuse about the weight, it wasnt a issue, I put a lot of pressure on myself to win this one and felt my whole career came down to this one night, I felt really tense in there, lost rounds 1 and 2 but felt 3 and 4 I was getting a foot hold in the fight then got nailed by a good shot and couldnt continue, fair play to derry hes a good fighter and a top kid, I wish him the very best, as for me this one will take a bit of getting over but I will continue trying to reach my goals and hopefully the expierence will help me in future fights, thanks fellas for the kind words, its really appreciated, ill get there in the end

Keep battling mate and im sure you will achieve more of your goals. You have earned a lot of respect on this forum and in boxing in general by being a true warrior and a decent bloke!

You'll come back stronger Curtis, no doubt. In fact, you only have to look as far as Derry himself to see that's entirely possible. Sounds like you've already identified some of the issues, which is more than half the battle, so onwards and upwards from here

Good luck Curtis, hope to see you back in the ring again. You always bring it and give the fans value for money. IMO you are definitely capable of winning a commonwealth or British title.

Classy response Curtis, as it's always got to be a shock for a boxer getting stopped first time out - but you can take heart that it took a seriously hard puncher to do that, as Derry hits like a mule. He's got shoulders like bloody Tommy Hearns and gets serious leverage on his punches.

Curtis, your attitude is the reason people follow and support you - getting wins is just a bonus.

You have a lot of fans mate and you have a kill or be killed approach lately which is always entertaining, win lose or draw.

Don't want to get to despondent, you gave it a good go and Derry Matthews himself has been rock bottom (5 ko's in a run of 8 fights) and look how he has come back.

Top man just shows how hard a sport boxing is sometimes.. I think your one of the top guys of boxing will fight anyone anywhere and that deserves a lot of respect!! I really hope you reach your goals
