Regardless of Joshua's amateur pedigree I think this an OK debt opponent Wouldn't have expected any more or less. Everyone deserves a grounding in the pros and a steady education. Matchroom would be criticised if they were throwing him in too deep so this is fair enough because he is a bit raw technically.

I have to be honest, im not completely sold on Joshua. Like others have said he seems very raw and mechanical to me. He doesnt seem particularily fluid to me in both his footwork and his handspeed when throwing punches. I know this is unfair because of his short amateur career but I look at guys like the Klitschko's and Lewis, fellow Gold medal winners and he doesnt seem to have the same kind of quality.

I think his athletism is elite he comes across extremely focused with good work ethic he is very roar & slightly robotic would love to see him tutored by somebody of Tim witherspoons stature.

I like him think he'll go far without truly being tested which is my main concern

Also I am guilty of forgetting he's only been in the game for 4 years which normal fighters then enter Aba championship standard & the fact he made it to the Olympics let alone win them is pretty remarkable.i think his hands & feet are very good. His head movement is poor as is his waist & pulling back from punches these are visible weakness's.
Quality sparring & mentor ship will solve this

Are people seriously slagging off a guy because he is fighting a gimme on his pro debut? Boxrec has hit a new low.

Do you not remember how Lewis looked early in his career? Clumsy, mechanical, lacking fluidity. As late as the Gary Mason fight I remember thinking "this guy isn't going to cut it at the top, he's clumsy and lumbering". I learned a lot from watching his career, which was one of the first that I got to see from really early, purely because he was an Olympic medalist. Also let's not forget that Audley DID look slick and fluid from the off.

Not massively. He got a lot of stick for performances against the likes of McCafferty, Krence and Negas, showing a piss poor workrate, but I agree with your point. The fact that so many seem keen to write off a very young heavyweight who had a very successful if short amateur career before he has even stepped foot in a pro ring amazes me.

You know what, he isn't going to make any sort of step up for about 4 years. Get used to that and worry a lot less.

Not true. The Boxrec low was reached a few days ago when Haye was accussed of mutilating himself to get out of a fight with fury.

Also I recall that a week ago a guy refused to blame George Groves for something. I can let the Haye thing slide, but I simply cannot and will not accept letting Groves off the hook.

More slagging off the cynicism. The Hearns have picked someone with a clear intention of saying Joshua has beaten someone with an "unbeaten record" as opposed to anything.

Fight a gimme on debut is no problem, and no one expects Joshua to begin like Murata or Lomachenko but we don't need things that look better on paper than they are.

You're clutches at straws for something to moan about. Just relax a bit. Pretty sure fast Eddie was quite honest with his appraisal after the Rocky Fielding fight last weekend. Don't get agitated over what someone might say in the future

Sensible approach someone who was in the WSB - can measure his standard to Joshua's a bit easier. Not a tough test but to be expected.

It'll be 4 years before he's in with anyone of any merit.

I was going to say the same thing. The guy is 8-0. When was the last time you remember somebody fighting an undefeated boxer in their debut? (And no, it doesn't count if both fighters are making their debut.)

Okay, his record doesn't hold up to scrutiny. But it's not going to for a debut opponent, is it? People are acting like he should be fighting a Klitschko brother.

Pfft, got tickets for this event thinking that Anthony Joshua would be the modern day Pete Rademacher and that he would be taking on the world heavyweight champion.
How dare he face an unknown Italian who's not likely to cause him too many problems...I think I'll ask Eddie for my money back. :o

The Boxrec low will always be the day a thread was created blaming high altitude for Tszyu losing to Hatton.

So you'd rather him face a guy who really is shite as opposed to a guy with an unbeaten record who is shite? Are you on crack?

I think WSB fights should appear on a guy's record. This bloke is not really unbeaten as a pro. That's not to say I've got a problem with him as the opponent, I haven't, I think he's just right.

Joshua was carried through the Olympics. Think he is too leaden and manufactured for the pro game.

Beauty of the pros is we will all find out eventually.

I ain't judging Joshua based on the Olympics, he was better at the worlds the year before. Seemed like the pressure got to him a bit last year, especially in the first fight.

He has a lot to work with
