To back up what i was saying about small hall shows, here in Nottingham i think the problem is as much about a lack of venues suitable for pro boxing in my opinion.

Most of the venues available are leisure centres which in my opinion do not hold the noise in very well due to the high ceilings, all sounds a bit too much of an echo.

Traditionally in Nottingham outside of Nottingham Arena we have had places like Harvey Hadden (which is currently being refurbished) , while it wasnt ever a great venue its certainly better than the likes of Clifton Leisure Centre.

The Nightclubs are obviously out of bounds on Friday and Saturday nights for obvious reasons.

Rushcliffe arena is only available during the school summer holidays so isnt really an appropriate option for the promoters either.

So in my opinion Nottingham is short of a couple of descent venues, at least until Harvey Hadden is available again.

I have been lead to believe Nottingham arena can set up the Ice Hockey stadium to hold 2000 spectators for a show bigger than small hall but not quite arena size but maybe thats prohibitive as far as costs go.

It was a cracking show, some good evenly matched fights, the best by far for me was the top of the bill though. The small hall shows like yesterday's are my favourite and I know how extremely hard the likes of Jon Pegg, Carl Greaves, Dave Coldwell etc work.

Terry Carruthers boxed out of his skin and looked absolute class in every department to win the Vacant Midland Area L/M Title. 100-90pts.

His combinations and movement was brilliant, Terry always gives value for money and a real crowd pleaser, tough has a coffin nail, but his skill he showed aswell yesterday was brilliant, and I for one am happy he got what he deserved.

Brilliant venue great changing rooms aswell for us all which is a nice change

Atmosphere there is always good aswell.

Good points mate personally I prefer Clifton l/c to the Harvey Haden

Yesterday was exceptional. Where else would you see an atmosphere like that for two main eventers coming in with records of 14-15-6 and 4-28-4.

Tommy Owens & Jon Pegg always put on a great show.

Give me a small hall show over an arena any day of the week!

i prefer the small halls atmosphere is intense, and isint lost like the big arenas

I love wolvo civic great venue ste saville v. Baz carey and chris male v liam richards were two great shows. which I really enjoyed their. Saville v carey was an all out war.

That's very true, you get the more hardcore boxing fans at small hall and not the football crowd at big venues. The smallest show I've ever been to was Barker v Hope at the Olympia so based on that I prefer a Kell Brook type of show in Sheffield.

Liverpool Olympia all day go to as many shows there as I possibly can. Always a fantastic atmosphere and a great venue. Its falling apart in places but in some ways that lends to its appeal. I would love to go to York Hall sometime soon.

If people could have a "must see" list of boxing venues what would be in there. Obviously York Hall, I would add the Liverpool Olympia. I I've heard Colne is pretty good and the Winter Gardens is decent but a little too spacious for my liking good medium sized venue. Brian Rose fits it well for his fanbase.

The old small halls are great, leisure centres are crap. I have been to Leeds Town Hall, Liverpool Olympia, Hartlepool Borough Hall and York Hall and they all generate a different kind of atmosphere. Cant do with Football stadium shows, they just don't do it for me, in fact, I have just decided I am not going to one ever again after thinking of a few in my head.

Theres a show at the civic December 1st, I believe.

It really depends who the fighters are etc. If you get a top quality fight in a small hall v only a decent match up in an arena then the small hall is going to win every day of the week. On the small hall shows though you can if you don't pick the right one get a lot of mismatches and the atmosphere may only really get going for one or two of the fights.

I love York Hall but I think the middle arena's can be just as good if you get the right mix of atmosphere. For example I thought the experience of Nurnberg for Valuev v Haye was blinding atmosphere was cracking from the travelling support. I also thought the Theatre at MSG was a good place to watch boxing and atmosphere seemed good to me when I went there.

Fair Comments mate about mismatches on Small hall shows it all depends on who promotor is mind you if they dish up rubbish they dont usually last long as punters are not complete mugs as some promotors seem to think !!

I prefer small hall shows, but am not to impressed by shows held at leisure centres.

Who's on that card then I havnt heard anything. Apart from the odd pf the only other promoters to use the civc r errol johnson and pj rowson.

Small halls for me, but as a lot of people have said above some of the matches leave a lot to be desired so i choose carefully. watching 1 x 60-54 & 6 x 40-36's can get a bit tedious.

Leeds Town Hall is good, Colne Municipal Hall is like a York Hall of the north & of course the York Hall are all cracking venues.

Big arena but i do think it is bad what they are doing with the likes of joshua campbell and ogogo putting them in on massive shows on debut puting straight in the deepend need to build them up with small shows first

its understandable that the olympians will be on big shows and get more attention but one thing that does piss me off is the way Sky made out a 6 round debut to be the main event over a 'World' Title fight.

I've been a massive armchair for the last 10 years but going to the Bristol Show in Nov (Haskins, Francis, H Fury)
Has anyone got any experience of the City Academy Bristol? Its unreserved seating at £35 or £60 ringside - is it worth getting a ringside seat or is the unreserved adequate, if you get there early enough?

Don't know that venue specifically but to be honest with small hall shows I'd say just go unreserved (and get yourself a decent seat). Some of the small halls with balconys the views are actually better on the balcony.
