Re: Jamie McDonnell splits with Dennis Hobson

I think we should wait for something official from either party before rolling out the gallows for a public hanging.
Why let the truth get in the way of a good story....G0mez wrote:I think we should wait for something official from either party before rolling out the gallows for a public hanging.
If he'd done his job properly and promoted the fight so people bought tickets he wouldn't of lost money. Or if he'd got a tv deal to cover the costs of the fightpalooka wrote:jackukmma wrote:Boxing is a short career and dangers are very real. It's a business and you can't just stick with someone out of pure loyalty. Yes Hobson got him a title shot over here, he's not promoted him though has he. No one knows who he is despite being world champion. Hobson signed a deal with Allegedly channel not McDonnell. Notice there were no comments from Jamie in the press release. They wanted him to defend against Matty Hall. Again hardly going to get him exposure tucked away on Allegedly channel in a defence like that. Tough decisions have to be made in boxing sometimes
It must have been a tough decision for Dennis Hobson to fork out 10's of thousands to get Jamie a hometown World Title fight - as Doncaster had never had one before - knowing it would lose money. It must have been hard for him to take Jamie on when he wasn't training right and going on the piss every week.
Interesting matchjackukmma wrote:They wanted him to defend against Matty Hall.
No offence but if you hadnt noticed, outside of matchroom there is no one with a significantly powerful tv deal. When Hobson was dealing with him and getting him this world title shot, etc, no other promoter clearly gave a shit about Mcdonnell hence why some loyalty would of been nice.jackukmma wrote:If he'd done his job properly and promoted the fight so people bought tickets he wouldn't of lost money. Spot on Palooka, Dennis pissed a load of money up the wall whilst McDonnell was on the piss.palooka wrote:jackukmma wrote:Boxing is a short career and dangers are very real. No it shows you know jackshit. He got him a shot at home then sat back and couldn't be bothered to promote the show and sell tickets. He's been champ for what, 5 months now? What's he done in that time to get his name out there? You can't just say he's done a brilliant job by him because he got one thing right and ignore what he didn't do for him
jackukmma wrote:No just the only one that doesn't want to hang McDonnell for doing what's best for his career it seems. If he is asking the question ... the answer is that outside of their own areas (i.e. friends, family and extensions thereof) hardly anybody in this country cares about the famine weights. Whether they're on TV or not. People can come back at me with the one glaring princely exception. Even Duke McKenzie didn't get watched on TV and he was a brilliant boxer.Jack B wrote:Two sides to every story. Hobson shelled out ££££ to get him a shot at home, but the problem is nobody saw it. I don't think it's unreasonable for McDonnell to be asking questions. He's one of 4 world titleholders in the UK - his profile is miles below the other 3. How many people will have watched the Ceja fight? 10,000?

I live in Doncaster jack and Jamie has been in the local papers every week, on the local news every other week; Doncaster is not a big fight town; the shows are generally at The Dome; there was no way on this earth that 15,000 people would turn out to see him. Hobson did what he could no doubt, Jamie has shown no loyalty whatsoever and saying that it's understandable is accepting an utterly cut throat method of doing business.
palooka wrote:No it shows you know jackshit. He's a world champion not an area champion. He should just accept mediocrity because his promoter can't do his job properly?
jackukmma wrote:I live in Doncaster jack and Jamie has been in the local papers every week, on the local news every other week; Doncaster is not a big fight town; the shows are generally at The Dome; there was no way on this earth that 15,000 people would turn out to see him. Oh nice.earsjohn wrote:Not sure if this is the right thread, but Lovely Eddie has just tweeted that a new signing will be unveiled at tomorrow's Barker v Sturm press conference.
Too true. Eddie gobshite Hearn let's another promoter do all the hard work, then steps in with his exclusive Sky TV deal ( big thanks to numbnuts Adam Smith ) and cherry picks yet another ready made world champion.palooka wrote: P T Barnum couldn't have got him better than a world title fight in his hometown - undefeated Julio Ceja flew 5000 miles out of his comfort zone and Jamie went off the next day for a fortnights holiday - not bothering with any media or interviews whatsoever - not everything can be parked at the promoters door./
