I don't think James was being sarcastic over the Roy Jones thing - they even had to say "what you think of Roy Jones' comments" for him to react with a "that was Roy Jones??" -

If it was a sarcastic comment then I didn't get the joke cause Roy looks sounds and IMO fights a hell of a lot better than James now.

Terry, understand exactly what you are saying but I just hope (and I don't know the answer) overseas fighters get the same medical exams as when somone is applying for a licence - MRI's etc and not just the old check if your balls have dropped test.

and seeing Toney as he is.... hearing what his own doctor said about him 10 years ago..... I bloody doubt is MRI wouldn't show extensive damage.

Ali "passed" the medical exams for the holmes and berbick fights also.... even though the guy couldn't even touch his own nose accurately!!!!

If he has genually passed the CT and/or MRI scans (which ever one they do these days) - then great, look forward to him on prizefighter. I know there is a confidentiality issue - but I would like to see the evidence that he has passed them.

All we asked for was for Tommy Morrison to prove beyond dispute he was HIV negative, look what happened there.

The guy obviously needs the money but I have to agree that Matchroom have put the $ first here. If they are trying to build british boxing as they claim and setting high standards, they really shouldnt have gone for Toney. Its a bit of a freak show.

Toney used to be verbose, now he can barely string words together, he still has a good chin and takes a hell of a shot which means he lasts rounds in the ring with much bigger guys but he is getting hit hard and often in every fight so his health is getting worse. We wouldn't be having this conversation if he wasn't a marquee name and that's the problem. If you have seen him these last 2/3 years and can honestly say he's not punch drunk I respectfully disagree. Toney is a fighter, a warrior and a skint one at that, so he won't ever quit until he's told he has to. But he generates cash as he's still a recognisable "name".

Aye, the tax issue gets to the best of them! The list is endless of all the warriors who've owed millions and ended up scratching a living. Terrible but still happening today. It makes sense to take a large whack from your purse and hand it over immediately but I guess the temptation is there to hang onto it a while and then suddenly you've had a few fights and owe huge amounts all in one go. Not to mention the feckers & hangers on around Toney who probably advised him so badly and spent half of it.

It was sad to see the way he was shaking, whatever medicals they have I couldn't in good conscience be encouraging him to box. If that interview was with a retired Toney it would still be sad to watch, using it to promote a tournament he is competing in reflects very badly on the sport IMO, especially with casual fans who will just see a fat, mouthy, most likely damaged middle aged man with no appreciation of the supreme fighter he was at his best.

I think it says a lot that Sky couldn't dedicate the whole show to Toney - a true legend of the sport not over here often should have made compulsive viewing for the whole hour.... but sadly we've known for years that Toney is punch drunk so there is no way they could afford to give him a longer slot.

Having said that, there is a few youtube clips of him being interviewed (since he signed for prizefighter) where he seemed a lot more switched on (though still very hard to understand) than he was on Ringside.... he didn't seem to have much of an entire what the prizefighter format was about. So hopefully there were other explanations for this particularly sad sight.

I am really surprised at the BBBofC, although he hasn't suffered kayo's he's taken many head blows over his long career...they should have taken a stand and said no.

. I put the responsibility on the authorities. We use things in the UK which have been made in sweatshops - lots of things. We dont shoulder the moral burden, we expect the authorities to sort it.

Special thanks to Spencer Oliver for saying Toney is still boxing at the top. Really helpful.

Watched it back, I stand corrected ! Just didn't notice it first time round, as for sky and matchroom, it's not really there fault if he passes all the relevant tests is it ?

As far as the Roy jones junior bit goes, toney mentioned chickens and pensacola, (jones breeds fighting chickens and comes from Pensacola) so I think he knows what's going on

Sometimes people like this are too stubborn and their family cannot make them see sense, the promoter and board should remember that someone's quality of life is more important than entertainment and selling a few tickets or picking up a few more viewers.

Inadvertently that is the point though. If I thought my dad wasn't fit to fight, or do his job in general, then I would take it upon myself to stop him. I wouldn't blame his employers.

Have you watched it? And if so in your opinion do you think he should fight?

I have watched it and imo the guy obviously doesn't realise how bad he is. The promoters do, as do most normal people who don't want to see another human suffer for the sake of entertainment. It's no better than dog fighting.

Bet you're cool with that too. Just something that doesn't know better being used for entertainment. Sure the treat they get at the end of the fight is worth it!

Just think how much better Matchroom would look if they pulled him out, for his own good. Morally it's the right thing to do and it's a sad day for boxing when those responsible for putting these shows on are exonerated from decisions like this.

Toney should have quit years ago. I also haven't been able to understand a word he has said for a long long time. No he shouldn't fight. I am not here saying the future HOF'er is fit to fight, I dont have to and neither does the promoter or network. That's not their job.

The dog fighting thing is just bullshit really. Do dogs get paid? Do dogs have a family who can fight their corner? Do dogs get medically deemed fit to participate in a fight? No.

What is the point in having a fighter pass tests if you just ignore it anyway?

BBBofC have cleared him so its a non-issue.

Unless you are saying he should get special treatment based on the fact he is an arguable ATG.

Or you are saying Sky or Matchroom should have veto to overrule board decisions and/or have more relevant medical expertise than the Board.
