Promoter denies Golovkin-Murray report

Tom Loeffler, Managing Director at K2 Promotions, told Fightnews.com Saturday night that there is no truth to a Daily Mail report that WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s February 1 title defense in Monte Carlo will be against two-time world title challenger Martin Murray. “There is no truth to that story,” Loeffler said. “We have offered a fight to Murray in the past and they have not been interested.”

Golovkin is scheduled to fight February 1 in Monte Carlo, but the opponent is not finalized.

Apparently fighting different people on the same card.

The other thread about fighting for the WBA paper title is right afterall. I'm good with this as long as Murray fight Barker after it.

I'm convinced Murray will beat Barker ( no disrecpect to Darren I like him) I just can't see Eddie being willing to make it anytime soon.

I'm really not sure with these 2. i think the approach of the 2 going into the fight could swing it.

darren was a good boxer, but has started really planting his feet, boxing on the front foot and stalking opponents and getting good power in his shots, so realistically he could fight on the back foot or the front
same with murray, i've seen him fight a lot more aggresively than he did against martinez, but he's shown he can tuck up and fight a much more defensive fight behind a high guard.

i'm swayed towards murray, just because he looked the best of the british fighters in the bouts vs sturm and martinez.
But darren has looked really solid in the 2 fights building up to geale and at the end of the day, he is the one british middlewieght who has suceeded in getting his hands on a world title

i don't think stevens is a local boxer, he's probably on a par with the likes of murray or barker, he was just unfortunate to run into a very very good fighter.

i thought he did fairly well, but he was never going to win that fight

Thinking about it Curtis is better than a local fighter, that was very harsh; he is probably British title level or European title level, Stevens v Macklin would be a good fight and I think both Barker and Murray are a level above with Golovkin a league above them all.

if he sits behind that high guard all fight then it is only a waiting game for golovkin to break him down and find the hurtful punches.

my worry is, what game plan does murray use?

martin has alwas had a rock solid guard even as a amateur and martin has the skills to trouble ayone in the world

i don't remember him using it so much as he did in the martinez fight, it was like a wall
not a critisism, it was a great game plan that could have worked anywhere other than argentina

but for me, that would be the wrong approach for golovkin. golovkin would chop him down if he stands in front of him with his hands up.


as for having the skills to trouble GGG. we'll have to disagree there, i can see him being competative for few rounds, but i dont think he gives him real trouble.

for me, only the elite level fighters trouble or indeed beat golovkin

No disrespect mate, but I think with GGG we're talking a whole different level. What could Murray do skill-wise that you see troubling him?

Murray would take a lot more than given credit for. He is a very tough lad. Not saying he will win, but he won't crumble.

I agree, if GGG gets Murray out of there with in 5 rounds we really have got some kind of guy on our hands here, Murray is as tough as they come ! As far as murray's chances go, very slim, but GGG got hit last time out and Murray caught Martinez often enough ! Hope it's a war

stevens would hammer barker - murray might be too much for him though. ggg is in a class of his own.
