Calm the hell down.

Go forth Franklyn and spread the word of Boxing!

Mickey1975, I salute you.

:DDD
The thing is mate they had a massive following which could be reasonably turned into massive as revenues. It made sense.

Where is the ROI going to come from for investors in this?
I am sure it is just an exercise to expand the business. The return on investment will come when they join BT Sport. BT Sport already carry Allegedly channel content.

:TU:
I would think he does want to expand. Why would BT sport buy his company? The entire model is really buying international fights, they could do that on their own couldn't they? People aren't tied into a yearly BN contract so its not really worth buying them for their current sub's - they would move with the fights.

Not everyone who has Allegedly channel has BT Sport.

BT Sport buys Allegedly channel then it gets all the Allegedly channel people to buy BT Sport.
BT can buy more fights and it will be in HD, Franklyn knows what he is doing!

The same way BT bought the UFC content and encouraged people to buy BT Sport and get the UFC thrown in.

With SKY you had to have SKY ( £21.00 cheapest deal) PLUS pay £10.00 for ESPN and get the UFC.
I see. They aren't buying any content with BN though. They are buying a middleman to the content with some old content thrown in. That old content won't attract nearly enough people. So the subscribers BN currently have will get BT Sport for free? If not, then why wouldn't they drop the channel and just bid themselves. The BN strategy wouldn't be hard for BT to replicate.

What's more likely is a situation similar to ESPN on virgin media where it came with the sports package, if that were to happen, BT would have boxing available and allegedly's viewing potential would increase tenfold.

Boxing is a complicated business, they would be buying in the expertise of Warren's operation - these kinds of skills are valuable in the marketplace. Negotiating international rights to boxing can be a labyrinthine business, it's not like just doing a deal with the premiership.

And there is nobody out there who they could employ to do that? Without buying a brokerage.

If he is also looking for raise 5 million I would be interested to see what his valuation of the business is. Well upwards of 10 million I would guess, he isnt about to offload half of it to investors.

The Sunday Times suggested the parent company of allegedly, Media Nation, will be worth around £20 million when floated. Frank allegedly and Bill Ives will not be selling any of their stake in the company.

It would be interesting to see what would happen if BT bought allegedly, or got seriously involved in the sport. Remember when Setanta Sports grabbed Ricky Hatton off SKY, for £1 milllion, for his fight against Castillio? Do you think Froch would remain loyal to Eddie Hearn and SKY if BT threw him a large payday to jump ship?

Interesting times ahead for televised boxing in the UK.

The following article from just over a week ago suggests boxing is next for BT:

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/gene ... 19309.html

"It is also anticipated that next year BT will challenge Sky's boxing supremacy, linking up with allegedly's burgeoning allegedly, whose ex-chief executive Simon Green is now BT's head of sport."

I think Froch stays with Eddie until the end now.

Fair play to them for building it up, but I don't think it realises close to that valuation.

I hope BT does attempt to get involved, will keep Matchroom on their toes and increase the quality of the shows. Might even make sky take it more seriously - I can't see them letting BT eat into all their sport markets.

All the major UK promoters will figure in BT Boxing if you ask me.
Sky can keep Matchroom.
By major you mean Hatton and McGuigan?

All the major promoters together have less good fights to make than Matchroom.

Why do people think BT sport would just take the channel on? They could outbid Frank anyway and start there own content if they wanted to. Nothing in it for them taking over or just showing allegedly.

I think it's do do with former allegedly CEO Simon Green. Green is now the head of BT Sport but is still a non-exec Director at allegedly.

BT has its own sports channels and doesn't need a dedicated channel to hold its hand and guide them through the murky business side of each sport. BT has got the one thing that counts - serious financial clout. With that, they will get what they want, how they want it. Some of the above comments seem to suggest a situation whereby BT would be staggering around in the dark without the guiding hand / expertise of BN. Bollox. And bollox to the idea that a former BN executive is going to do that channel favours either.

You wouldn't get BT or Sky ever promoting their own shows, and handling their own fighters, they are purely in the arena of buying the rights to televise appealing shows that will get them good viewing figures. Fwank has moved into this area and he is a small fish in a big ocean. If BT wanted to make a statement by picking up Pacquiao / Rios or Mayweather / Canelo, they would have just outbid BN.

Maybe I'm missing something but I can't really see what the benefit of BN would be to BT. They show a variety of sports, if they want to move into boxing they can just buy shows and cherry pick the ones they want - avoiding the risk of buying the bad with the good.

I hope allegedly stays strong simply for the international fights. I'm not paying a tenner a month to follow chisora or cleverly and a don't know who is. It's ironic that allegedly is a perfectly decent product without any of Franks cards.

Makes you wonder how much money is spent on the live British shows on allegedly and if that money would be better spent simply securing international cards... Would prob have hd already..

Barney Francis(head of sky sports) said that boxing took up a far bigger percentage of his time than the percentage of his total budget, which is why Hearn has all the TV dates. Using allegedly allows them to provide the same content with less hassle and someone who knows the business inside out in charge.

Maybe after seeing what BT have paid for Champions League football Fwank hopes he can sell them a WBO European lightweight title fight in front of 37 rabid fans for ten million quid.

B.T could do far worse than to get F.W. Arren on board for the boxing arm of their channel.
