Yeah it can stay inside your head. Shy people don't shout there this and that but they might still be thinking it.

Having confidence in yourself is different from having a big ego which is often inflated by what others say about you, having expensive belongings, a pretty girlfriend etc. I think real confidence comes from experience and knowing both your abilities and your shortcomings and being aware that other people have their own shortcomings as well. With an overblown ego people tend to put themselves across as something that they are not and point to others to back up their boasts. A confident person doesn't have to boast though some confident people like to boast.

Ego is generated by backslappers who big you up at every opportunity, Degale is a perfect example of it, billy big bollocks with crowds of girls wearing shirts with "Chunkette" on them yet he lost the biggest fight of his professional career, I've seen absolutely nothing to suggest he will become the superstar he seems to think he is.

Hatton when he was active, he seems to have come down a peg or 2 since his retirement though

Why Hatton, Chambers? Cause of the business with Witter - I think the word "business" says a lot. Confident in his ability yes, talked about being P4P number 1 and the P4P title as it were, but then if he would have beaten Mayweather or Pacquiao it would have been hard not to have in around #1 P4P. He tried to back it up by fighting the best, fell short but gave it ago.

Adam Booth for me, just his dark lord persona.... anyone who doesn't mind or feel embarrassed by being called the Dark lord has got to fancy himself a bit..... all of that "oh lets wear different colours to represent different strategies" pseudo psychology shit.... cracks me up. Particularly as most of his fighters fight the same ways irrespective of their colours.... stand tall and look for the counter, when your facing a counter puncher then blame a broken toe.

i went with booth ,when he came up against a real trainer in manny stewart he didn't have a clue what to do after 15 seconds

Hatton was quite the ego at one stage, fairly well hidden though. Referring to yourself in third person is always a sign of a huge ego I think.

Material wise, maybe. He will have also have had the roughest life by far. At a young age(6/7), instead of getting a cuddle off his mum if a bigger boy had hit him, his dad will have been lining up rematches withe other kids dad! He will have been surrounded by violence or talk of violence his whole life.

He's upbringing would have been pretty insular, surrounded by family where no real harm would have come to him ( as in getting a knife in his back whilst walking home from school ) Rather that than being brought up on some shitty council estate in London where getting stabbed every day seems a possibility!

Mind you, travellers are notorious for the 'black dog syndrome' ( as in, 'you have a black dog? my ones blacker!!!' ) so I expect Fury not only went to school but had to battle waves of Taliban on the way in, armed with nothing but his packed lunch and ruler!

I know a few men like that and they aren't the most rounded of individuals though when it kicks off they have the advantage of being both insane and impervious to pain or fear.

Fury is not the most rounded individual....
