I've watched Groves get decked by Anderson, buzzed by Smith, and in my view, outboxed for large parts of his fight with DeGale. I've seen Froch give, take, and win against Bute, Dirrell, Taylor, Abraham, Kessler, Pascal, McGee, Reid, all of them at least one level above anyone Groves has faced. I really see no reason to believe in Groves. If Froch had looked worn in his last couple of fights, maybe, but he hasn't.

I think the posts above tell you everything you need to know about the validity of using such breakdowns to try and figure out who wins a fight.

So are you trying to tell me that Groves's salmon coloured trousers are not going have a determining factor on this fight?! FFS,

One interesting thing that Eddie has said is that we don't know how good Groves is. He hasn't proved himself yet...that doesn't mean he hasn't got that talent, it is just that we don't know.
Remember, Alan Minter was favoured to beat Hagler. It was only after Hagler smashed him and went on to become a legend that you realise your pre-conceptions of the fight were nonsense.
In the end, we learn a lot about Groves one way or another.

i've seen Froch's footwork in the ring, I'd be surprised if he could out-do Valuev on bust-a-move

That's my take.
Booth's gone, so tactics is out of the window. Did you see the head to head, Groves looked sh1t scared plus Groves has never been in with Ward, Kessler, Pascal etc
And I'm a Groves fan

When Booth was in charge, everything used to be 'top-secret' Booth didn't even like the press training sessions
Now Grove's is saying 'I'm gonna do this that and the other'. I think he has no game plan whatsoever 'I'm gonna go forward and jab and cross'... good plan

OK, and I do have a gut instinct that Groves is fragile (hence my belief Groves will be doing really well until he is caught), but considering Degale was seen as one of the top prospects going and had recently humiliated Smith in front of his home crowd, I don't think the fact Degale was winning rounds should be used as an indication that Groves is wank. The fact he won should indicate he is talented

Anderson was a big tough and powerful man, Groves came straight back and stopped him with body punches, Smith landed a good right but lets not pretend Groves did the Zab dance, DeGale is an Olympic Gold medalist and a southpaw - there are only a couple of people in the world he'd not outbox for large periods. DeGale will probably go on to do a lot more and the result will look even better in time.

The Smith win flattered Degale a fair bit I think. I agree with your general sentiment though

I absolutely don't think he's wank, I just think he's at least a level below Froch. I think he's a talented lad, and might be a champ one day, but Froch is not Kenny Anderson, and Groves is not Andre Ward. Froch has mixed with the best and proved himself. Groves has looked iffy mixing at national level (I'm not including DeGale in that). It reminds me a bit of Henry Wharton when he was facing Benn; he was a good, strong lad with some skills, but there was just no way you could see him doing any better than keeping it competitive.
For my money, Groves has to find another gear above anything he's done so far to even make this a fight; I think he'll find that gear, but not the couple more he needs to make it a win.

So when you compare 2 people fighting, how do you compare them? It's no different to what all the boxing analysts discuss. How about if Groves wins then 'Riddick Blowe' never comes on this forum again?

If he does anything other than lots of lateral movement and then the jab, it'll be an early night.

You compare how those attributes will actually play out in the ring. Groves may jab and move like he can, but Froch cuts the ring off a lot better than any of his prior opponents, and a couple of them have nailed him. Groves may have the bigger punch, but Froch has a chin of iron, and can dig back, too; if Groves makes it a firefight, he's done.

Whatever happens in this fight, i'm 99.0 % sure that Groves will go on to become a world. I mean im pretty sure he'd beat Stieglitz now and I'd fancy his chances against the current Bika aswell.

I imagined the plan to beat Froch would be more intricate; is this a red herring or a good tactic?
Depends what you do when you get there - I'll be very surprised if Groves calls out that bet.

I can go along with that. I could see both Groves and DeGale getting straps, and reprising that match for really big money.
