Arrogant and un-sportsmanslike.
Froch will go to bed knowing he was very very lucky to come away the winner. It will play on his mind that he was simply outclassed and made to look very ordinary. He looked slow, his timing was off and he looked very unsure of himself and tentative, pawing with his jab. Shocking decision.
after being out classed for most of the fight.
For me Froch was the one who was acting immature in the build up, making pathetic silly comments about George Groves trousers and bad breath, he was equally immature after the fight too. :(

My two cents:
Aside from Andre Ward, I doubt there is a single SMW who honestly considers Groves anything other than a hard hard nights work. I think that ultimately Froch will use the result to gain a rematch with Ward. Groves I think may have earned himself entry to the head table of the 'who needs him' club.
Froch was coming back into the fight but I think Groves deserved the chance to go on, in pretty much every round Froch was in a position where the away fighter would have been stopped, we've all seen them. At the time of the stoppage, Groves was throwing back and defending, the headshot before the ref steps in Groves blocked it with his glove, yes he was rocked but that was the first time in the fight, while Froch had every courtesy extended to him.
I've often said on here that I would rather see an early stoppage than an injury, but it has to be evenly applied and it wasn't last night.
Froch could have handled that interview better in about a thousand ways. All he had to say was 'I wouldn't have liked to be on the end of that decision, Groves and I have unfinished business, he's a great fighter and I'll fight him again.'
It was awful to see Groves being treated like that after he gave Froch the hardest night since the first Kessler fight. He deserved so much better than that.
I've always admired both men, I saw Groves' 2nd fight and followed him since then, Froch since I started intently following boxing, so from roughly when he fought Magee. Froch didn't 'make' Foster stop the fight, he was just the beneficiary and he's unlikely to condemn the ref outright, but he could have elevated himself with the right interview, instead he's harmed his reputation.

Re: Everyone back to hating Froch?
Great post and pretty much agree with every word. However I don't think Froch will seek to rematch Ward as that looks more like a hiding to nothing than ever now. I think there will be a rematch with Groves as ironically he'd probably earn more from that now than from the Ward fight, and even after last night it's still more winnable.@matt___s wrote:My two cents:

Re: Everyone back to hating Froch?
I know that public pronouncements aren't always the whole truth, but if Froch is to be taken seriously in his statements post-Groves, and that he would do better in a Ward rematch... IMO it hinges on whether Froch would fight him in the States again, and if not whether Ward would travel here (which IMO he has no real need to)

Good post.Rockys gum shield wrote:You would have imagined Froch had never seen the sort tactics Groves adopted in the build up to this fight, honestly did anyone really think Groves thought so badly of him really.
Froch deserves more credit then he got but that interview after the fight stunk of man who clearly enjoys the attention but felt disrespected by the fans. Did anyone else notice he said hopefully Eddie can make the fight "somewhere else", what was he suggesting? Seemed like he thought the Manchester fight fans had turned on him.
Hopefully someone puts an arm around him and tells him his ego is in danger of running away from him and it's as easy to lose the general public as it is to gain their support. To get to his level of support you've got to pick up the none fight fan support on the way.
It all got a little too Rocky in the end for me but hopefully we will get a rematch from this and we can get a fairer result.
Everyone back to hating froch....doesn't seem like he like us a lot from the comments.
It would have been proper wwf but I would have loved a boxer from the crowd just tell him to shut up when he started the shit about fans don't know much about the sport shite.

I wouldn't be surprised if Groves ends up getting a Ward fight off the back of that. Seriously.

Andre has left the elite level of boxing. The guy has some form of stage fright. He's terrified of being hit - not that I blame him, I can't say I like the idea of someone winging shots at my dome, that's why I don't fight. Same goes for him.

I took the OP post in terms of the British Public, not the crowd per say.gazza8 wrote:Well when you spend hundreds of pounds to go and see a fight and you get handed that ending id say you have every right to boo.Ally-M1 wrote:Completely agree.rapid2 wrote:Fickle British public were a joke tonight. The crowd jeering is understandable, done it myself when left feeling short changed, as much as I wouldn't like to admit it.
Though the masses who only ever tune in to the 'mainstream' fights jumping on and off bandwagons is horrendous and infuriating.
In any case, that's what I took the OP's post to mean. The public as opposed to the crowd.

Re: Everyone back to hating Froch?
I cant help but fully agree with what you have said. I never was a Froch fan but over the last year he seemed to me to be just a bit more reasonable in the things he said but last night he destroyed all that for me in his post fight interview. The first rules of boxing are keep your hands up and defend yourslf at all times and froch doesnt do that. It was only a matter of time before a young fast handed fighter would teach Froch the basic rules and Groves has done that. The stoppage was far too early for a World title fight involving two very tough fighters who can fight their way through a crisis. Another two on target punches without reply and I would have been happy with that. Foster knew these two were not average fighters and should have held back for a moment or two.vargas wrote:Froch has always walked a fine line between confidence and arrogance. Froch proved he isnt the clever guy he thinks he is. He contradicts himself all the time and comes over as an arrogant idiot. A rematch with a different ref and you have to say Froch loses.

A lot of ignorant and fickle fans turn up at the big events. Its almost a case of going just so they have something to talk about down the pub the following week or be 'seen' at the big fight!

Re: Everyone back to hating Froch?
In a post fight interview Froch said he won rounds 2, 3 and 4, his jab was landing well and he never took much in reply. He must have been suffering from concussion if he believes that !!!
It would have been interesting to hear Froch's opinion on the ref if he was stopped in that manner.

No I don't.WildWaylon wrote:Froch proved he isnt the clever guy he thinks he is. He contradicts himself all the time and comes over as an arrogant idiot. A rematch with a different ref and you have to say Froch loses.
The biggest beneficiary of the ref's ineptitude was Groves. He was in trouble and it was not the first time or the first round in the fight that he was.
Degradation of Froch's skills and overall ability is most disrespectful to Groves. George put on a terrific performance last night. His performance undoubtedly puts him on the world class map.
Groves deserved the benefit of the doubt, and certainly he could have survived, and won a close decision on points, but let's be honest, he was in the deepest of waters with a world class shark.
To those who claim Froch looked past it, who else in the history of boxing would have survived those first two rounds? I submit a handful of the toughest of all time, and nobody else.
Froch has never been fast. He has never been overly skilled. He has never had the most devastating power. But, Carl Froch has it. He is a modern day Spartan, undaunted by the odds he faces. A true warrior who will indeed fight to the death.
I salute him
Re: Everyone back to hating Froch?
Not always the case though, as an example I remember Ponce De Leon being given a tough 12 round fight by some Thai fella, then 8 months later PDL poleaxed him in less than a minute.WildWaylon wrote:Froch proved he isnt the clever guy he thinks he is. If there is a rematch then Froch now knows what he is up against and Groves would know that Froch knows this and will need to be ready to combat whatever Carl brings.
Re: Everyone back to hating Froch?
It shows how fickle the casual fight fans are, that they could switch allegiances based on who did well in the fight. It reminded me of when Khan got KO'd by Prescott at the MEN Arena.
If Froch had dominated, those same fans would have been dancing round saying what a knob Groves was.
Fickle people these days in Britain. As the inital post said, it's the X-Factor thing. No loyalty, just move on to the next one and the next one and bin people off on one bad performance.
