You know as well as I do that he isn't, and never was, the people's champion. He had some cracking booze-ups though. I question anyone's dignity who can not speak to their parents and brother for a prolonged period of time, or apparently milk his loyal legion of supporters who hung rigidly to his coat tails for years.

Had he fought Witter we could have been spared all this because Junior WOULD have stood him on his head, despite what the Hatton fraud police and the Showtime execs that never were might have said. Seriously.

If Hatton has problems then it adds to his success as a fighter, he did it all when fighting himself; he did very well and did it in a way that people wanted to watch; he was lucky that people could borrow against their homes to watch him but Hatton hasn't conned anyone. He did his level best and there will not be anyone with the same pull for another 10 or 15 years + he could fight, he was very good at his best.

The Hatton-Witter argument is subjective pal, but the notion that Hatton is an all-round good bloke, man of the people, is squeaky clean, absolutely isn't. Hatton's stack seems bomb proof to some people on here which is rather irritating.

People borrowed against their homes to go to Vegas and have a break and watch the fights; there aren't that many ordinary people with 3 or 4 grand in the bank for a weeks break no matter what gets talked about on the betting thread.

As for witter argument, it can go on and on but, regardless of opinion, junior never beat anyone of the calibre Ricky did, and never performed to the level Ricky did. Shoulda, woulda, coulda.

High level sportsmen tend to be highly strung individuals so it's no surprise their lives can end up chaotic during or following their careers.

There's a recurring theme here, Sam. Hatton's long-term relationships with his parents, brother and trainer have evaporated.

I was at a function with Hatton four weeks ago, he looked fine, spoke well and only had a couple of pints. He was on Sky a few hours later in Hull at Towers-Browne.

For all his faults I can't envisage him as the master puppeteer, as much as he may have perceived he was.

Speak tried to charge a pal of mine a tenner for Ricky to sign his photo, my pal told him he was taking the p!ss and Ricky laughed and signed it.
