What's good about headguards??? Finally after years of experts saying there a hinderance, people want them back??
I've seen fights stopped over headguards & fighters continually adjusting them & & stretching there mouth open because they are to tight.

Without getting into the debate on headguards, the casual observer and more so the casual Olympics viewer that watches boxing thinks, why the fornicate don't they take them off, the strapping is loose, that guys will not stay on properly, why does he keep adjusting it, is this boxing, where are the KOs, what the fornicate is happening here, why the fornicate is that crazy bastard from that unpronunciable country sitting in the corner refusing to fight/leave/start etc

"There is an element of truth in what Tony is saying about the incohesive promotion of boxing but the UFC is just one organisation in MMA with just one or two shows per month around the world. So you can't compare the promotion of a UFC event with smallhall boxing.

There are multiple boxing shows around the world every month that are as big or bigger than UFC events. They have quality promotion, well treated participants, packed weigh ins etc.

Participants in small hall MMA events have to sell tickets just like small hall boxers.

Jeffries was promoted by Frank Maloney, he was notorious scrimping on expenditure like hotels, promotion, advertising, venues etc. probably one of the reasons SKY don't use him anymore. So again he isn't comparing apples with apples.

UFC PPV's are down, they could only half fill the last UFC event in Manchester and were giving tickets away on the streets to fill the venue. So let's have a closer look at the substance behind the hype.

UFC has an advantage because it has a virtual monopoly at the top level. This means they can spend more time and money on advertising and promoting their product. Boxing can learn from this. But remember, the top UFC stars don't get paid anywhere like the top boxers. Would they be happy to forgo say 50% if that money was spent on making it a slicker, better packaged promotion? I think not.

Just some thoughts off the top of head but I think it gives some balance to Tonys position."

I still think the UFC provides a better product than boxing does on the whole. Golden boy are the nearest to the UFC when it comes to putting on good all cards at the moment.

Oh I know what you mean, and that’s a fair point but I think boxing is getting better with that respect. Just look at the card on the weekend in Brooklyn and Atlantic City.

Yeah, that's I mentioned Golden boy earlier. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Oscar met with Dana White awhile back to get a better understanding of the UFC model and how it could work in boxing and i've noticed that since then *well for awhile actually* golden boy have been putting on consistently good cards with not just a good main event but good undercard fights aswell. Top Rank on the other hand still seem to put on very mediocre to put it politely undercards on the whole.

The card in Canada with Bellew was a very good card aswell to be honest. I know the HBO money plays a big part in the ability to do that though. It's not even that I have an issue with sub par talent being on cards because everyone deserves the opportunity, but instead of feeding them to someone who miles above them in ability put them in with someone around the same level. You can have really good british and even southern area title fights when the guys are fairly even in terms of ability. It's when you have these massive mismatches that it fucks up the sport IMO.

No doubt no guards make for a better spectacle but accumulative damage starts in the amateurs putting more miles on the clocks of possible future stars of the pro game.
It is only one tournament though if it was across the board then i think it would be more of a issue.
