It was a competitive fight. As far as I can tell from the goofy scoring system, the referee had Frazier winning 6 rounds, Bugner winning 3, and 3 were even. I scored it 7-5 in rounds, 115-112 if it had been 10-point must.
Anyway, Frazier-Holyfield would have been a different fight. Early, Holyfield would probably try to move around and outbox him. However, his slug it out impulse would eventually take over. Frazier had a a higher workrate, though Holyfield had a high one.
Holyfield was the more accurate puncher, but Frazier had the better defense of the two.
I think Frazier would win a very tough decision. Would have been a great fight.

I've always been a fan of Holyfield but I don't see him winning this fight. Unfortunately for Frazier he had the misfortune of falling between two of the better/best heavyweights of all time in Ali and Foreman and subsequently tends to be largely forgotten/underrated today.
I see this fight as going the way of Holyfield/Qawi I with Frazier outworking/outlasting Holyfield over the final five rounds of the fight to take a late round stoppage or win on points. Holyfield improved as a fighter after the Qawi fight but Frazier was bigger and better in every way than Qawi.

Frazier isn't forgotten. Look how many threads come up here with him a large part of the topic.
He was a bonafide all-time great and anyone with a lick of sense understands that.

Bugner against the prime Frazier of 1969 would have been a freaking slaughter.

Evander had those moments when he'd just "zone out" like he did vs Cooper, Stewart, Dokes, Foreman etc. and vs Frazier he's going to be punished severely during those moments, especially to the thin body/waist which was Evander's one (relatively) weak-spot. That's how Bowe got him so tired in their first fight, and Tyson's lone moment vs Holyfield came from a body attack.
Evander's hook better than Fraziers? Haha, oh please. Frazier's was as short, quick, and tight as they came. Look at the hook at that nearly decapitates Quarry in their rematch . . .that thing was lightening in a bottle. Holyfield threw nice crisp shots as well but he didn't have the firepower that Frazier had.
Evander would win the first 3-4 rounds but then Frazier would get in control, with Evander having an ever decreasing number of return-fire flurries as the fight went on.
By your logic Frazier should have boxed a shut-out over Joe Bugner, a passive fighter with a low output. Yet the fight was relatively close. Funny that.
That wasn't a prime Frazier, and Bugner fought the fight of his life vs Frazier, showing more offense than he ever did before or sense. And even that, he didn't trade with Frazier as much as Holyfield would. Bugner's defense allowed him to survive to the final bell, and he still got put down and almost out.

Still Joe Bugner is shit compared to Holyfield. Evander would bust Frazier up more than Ali managed down the stretch.

Maybe overshadowed by Ali/Foreman and underrated would be a better way of putting it. I always felt that when he was at his best, from 1967-71, that he would have given anyone, particularly boxers, all that they could handle. However it seems that when ever I go online, not specifically here, an awful lot of people act as if he were only marginally better than Bert Cooper and think that practically any halfway decent post 1990 heavyweight walks through him as easily as Foreman did.

Yes because Frazier so far past his prime when he fought Bugner. It is a little known fact that the 29 year old Frazier snuck out of a Senior Citizen Home for this fight.

These guys are my fav 2 fighters ever.
Who would win? prime for prime i think Frazier because although Evander would meet him head on, Frazier never stopped punching where Holyfield was happy to take breaks in fights by backing off on the inside (Bowe, Qawi).
Its such a close fight, it would be interesting to see how Holy would deal with that left hook but also how would Frazier deal with Evanders counter left hook and very combinations.
So many questions in this one but over 15 i take frazier by around 2 rounds
