A definite feelgood quality to this victory, Maidana deserved it and was humble in the post fight interview.
I was genuinely worried that there'd be a controversy with the scoring.

I'll give Broner some credit though, he showed some guts and took some pretty harsh shots, for a fighter who's never really been tagged he did well to get through. Although he was definitely looking for a way out when the "headbutt" connected. Also he was sporting at the end, went over to Maidana and wished him well, he must have known at that time it'd take a miracle or a pretty serious payoff to the judges to get him the result.

Hard to say what will happen to Broner now. He could start afresh, drop the whole Floyd wannabe gimmick and take the sport seriously. I think he could figure again at world level, possibly at a lower weight. He'll never be the elite pound for pound great though. Or he could fade out completely.

As for Maidana, I just hope he fights often, he's exciting to watch and will give anyone a hard scrap.

Think Sanata was behaving like that during one of his half dozen DQ wins over Terry Norris. Also remember Hopkins nonsense during his rematch with Jones and the first fight with Cunningham. For a few seconds my heart sank. Thought it would be a get out of jail card for Broner. Thankfully the ref was having none of it. The doctor was also somewhat dismissive of Broner.

Im surprised so many people thought broner was such a clear favourite in the first place. He was lucky against de leon at a lower weight and we all know what maidana can do.

All things aside broner showed some real heart in the ring he could have pulled an ortiz and just quit.

The commentators were a joke they kept making out it was close when it was pretty much a one sided pasting, the judges were all bang on for once.

Yeah spot on. As much as I dislike Broner he took his beating like a man and was still very dangerous throughout. There were points in the middle rounds where I thought he was walking Maidana down and Marcos's chance had gone but he turned it around again with that KD in the 8th. Broner took a really brutal beating in the 2nd and the 9th. Credit to him for not throwing in the towel. His corner work was awful. They had no clue what to do or say. They all just look petrified at the impending reality of the Broner gravy train hitting the skids.
Even in the last 2 it looked like he might pull it off and took a monster left hook but his PBF-esque defence just did not work against Maidana's shots coming from all sorts of angles. The number of chopping rights and leaping left hooks that landed was incredible. Maidana also found a jab from somewhere. Credit Robert Garica for that.
Seeing his tears as he fled the ring at the end abandoned by his entourage was pretty much the icing on the cake. It's difficult to feel sympathy for him but he might be on suicide watch his ego is that big.

Begs the question would Broner be interested in a rematch? Be a big money fight but likely the same result.

It was a dirty fight from both in fairness. There should have been more points deductions. Broner was complaining about it all night. Both were pushing off and using elbows. Maidana was also landing low a lot. I was actually glad Cole didn't get too involved. Dirty, rough fight but also a great one full of drama and excitement. Made up for some recent boring early hours US cards.

Hearing the result has put a smile on my face. Nothing wrong with being confident, but he is too anoying and the way he behaves is disrespectful.

I really hope that this result humbles Broner. He is a knob.

Broner just gets hit far too often, that was abundantly clear from his fight with Gavin Rees and then obvious against Malinaggi since.

I think Broner-Garcia would actually be fairly close. Purely because of the style matchup. I'd favour Garcia though.

I was only paying half attention after the fight and once the decision was announced I zoned out, did one of the guys in the UK studio really say they had Broner six points up or did I dream that?

Broner is a fantastic scalp for Marcos who is a solid and strong welter; losing to Maidana doesn't make Broner crap - he didn't have the strength to keep Marcos off him - he gave it a hell of a go though. It was a good fight and hope both can go onwards - I don't think Broner should be at welter though.

I dont think he takes his boxing seriously enough. He goes round touring the states with rappers like Lil Wayne. There was a video of him leaked last week having a threesome with a couple of dancers/hookers.

Yeah Locket and to be fair he was right. The yank commentators had Broner winning 4 and 5 which was a f#cking nonsense. I had Broner winning 6 & 7 and the last 2. Maidana scored 2 knockdowns and could have got a 10-8 in the 9th it was s such a beat down though I just gave it 10-9. Did get a points deduction just after second kd. So like Locket I had it by 6 points. On the whole Broner took a bad, bad beating. He was always in it but for most of the fight was second best and the fact he's getting most credit for taking his beating so well and showing such a good chin really tells you all you need to know.
