Expe - i know what you mean, but by same ethos how has macklin got to world level after fighting moore in that "war" in 2006, and facey before that in 2003? Im not saying throw kids in with elite fighters for a beatdown. I just dont see how a closely matched loss takes so much out of a fighter that it ends them. Doesnt in UFC, or other boxing examples.

Christ, we wouldnt have seen marquez post 2009, or gatti post 98.

Doesn't the fact some of these guys are in 30 fights before "really" stepping up also take something out of them?

Lomachenko was such a good amateur because he has mastered the art of boxing, hit and not get hit.
Salido will be just another opponent for him, vasyl wins easy, so no IMO it's not to soon, the question is for me who after ?

Number of fights - clearly the answer would be yes!!

However, the lad is supremely talented, a future P4P number 1 if everything goes according to plan.

My only concern a the amateur ranks is different to the professional ranks in so many ways - once you are at world level, theres no where else to go.

In addition, is he fighting for a world title so soon because his handlers want to make a fast buck??

Talent wise it would be a mismatch, but the concern I'd have for Lomochenko is the 12 round distance. Salido can do a good hard 12 rounds in his sleep and often gets stronger as the fight goes on, Lomochenko hasn't yet. I don't think doing 12 rounds behind closed doors is the same as a real fight with all the pressures that go with it. I think Lomochenko will win, but Salido will take rounds just on work rate.

Very true!!

His handlers aren't stupid. This fight is a easy one for Loma. Salido is good but Loma is better in every single department. I expect there to be a stoppage in this one. I think they are planning to move Loma through the weights quickly.. Within 1 year I can see him being a 3 weight world champion. I don't think there is anyone who can beat him right through to light welter. I think we will see just how good he is if he gets in with some of the P4P kings in a couple of years. Although it's unlikely I'm hoping to see him through in time to fight Mayweather. What a fight that would be. Lomachenko greatest ever Amateur will he become the greatest ever pro. My money is on yes!!

He'll win the WBO title, defend it for a year then unify.

I hope he doesn't move up the weights as fast as others are hoping, it takes time to do that right (look at Broner!)

Thats what i'm thinking. He looks fit as a fiddle, like he could go 15 rounds no problem, but then he has never fought 6, 8 or even ten rounds as a pro, never mind 12. There can be no substitute for experience and he does not have that in the pro ranks, if Salido can rough him up and press him hard he could get to him down the stretch.

Its risky, admirable on his part, but not on his handlers, though its possible they never had much say in the matter.

To be fair he is coming down in weight from lightweight as a amateur. Can't see him staying at Feather for long. I think this is an attempt to win as many titles at as many weights as possible won't see him a featherweight for long..

he has had a long amateur career ... even though it is different in the pro ranks but this kid is a very special talent indeed and it seems he wants it so why not...

Think Campbell should be aiming to win the British outright by the end of this season. Fight at the KC stadium against Tommy Coyle in June would be great

He's had 4 fights, he shouldn't be in a British title fight for another 12 months at least.

I've not seen the fight yet, will get around to it when i work of this stinking hangover. Anyone see it, what was your take on the fight?

Fair play to the Man for trying to mąkę history. I did not work out as planned. Hopefully Lomachenko's team will slow things down now, take more sensible fights and allow him time to develop into the pro ranks.

Ref was shocking. All Salido done was to make the fight a mess.. All the rounds were close. Lomachenko tried to pick up rounds with neater boxing and point punches not much venom.. I had Lomachenko by 2 rounds and believe Salido should of been disqualified for low blows. In the last couple of rounds he was sneakily holding lomachenko's arms. He used all the tricks in the book. A bad fight for boxing but I think lomachenko will come back stronger can't see him fighting like that again

On the flipside, I saw a supposedly shot veteran & serial fall-guy beat up & old-man a brilliant shining youth who had been anointed beforehand. I saw said supposedly shot veteran & fall-guy take absolutely any advantage he could to upset the massive odds against him, I saw him say a big "Fvck you" to the machinery of money behind boxing, a big "Fvck you" to the way the sport is presented & marketable fighters are presented, a big "Fvck you" to the way the fans are manipulated.

I further saw this old man given a tight, fair decision in a close bout.

I think I'll sleep soundly tonight, meself.

He lost a close fight at world level, he can learn an awful lot from that, more so than from knocking out bin men from Argentina or Belarus in a round or 2.

I go with the flip side too Salido played his game stalking in up close and wingin shots in and Lomanchenko struggled to deal with it.He had decent spurts though an didn't accrue much damage. Fair to say his inside game needs work

Christina Poncher made a point about the holding v low blows that made me wonder... would she prefer us to put our hand in her lady parts or give her a cuddle?

Yes lomachenko was fouling aswell but in close Salido was using his head elbows in close.. Inexperience was the key for lomachenko and far too many low blows went unpunished. I don't think he is as good as Rigo at this time.

They should have let him have about the same amount of fights as rigo did before he fought for a world title so that he could of had more time to adjust to the pro ranks and then he would of been ready for the likes of a wily old fox like salido, like bunce said if that was Bernard Hopkins everytime he was hit with a low blow he would have hit the deck and milked it for all it was worth and the ref eventually would of had to take points off lomachenko never complained once which showed he's naive and still in the amateur mindset

I still wasnt overly impressed by his skillset though even though he is very inexperienced in the pro ranks.

Looks like the $15, 000 fine for Salido coming in overweight was the best 15 grand he'll ever spend.
The extra weight helpedhim in the fight, he was 147lb at fight time.
So where next for Lomachenko? He's shown he can fight at this level, but can also be beaten at this level. Will his management try and get a shot at the vacant title, or will they now go more traditional and get Lomachenko learning fights for a while, then go for a title.
