I think Calzaghe would've stopped Froch in the middle rounds. Too busy, too good.

any more to this story?
They were meant to fight in December 2003 but Witter backed out, he should have been stripped of his lonsdale belt given that Magee was the number one contender but for some reason he kept hold of it.

It would have been for Calzaghe, don't think it would have been for Froch though. He's lucky he didn't fight him before Pascal, I doubt he would have had the half the career after the pasting Joe would have given him.

Magee once told Witter to his face that he wouldn't fight him because he was too dangerous and he wouldn't get paid enough money.

Would have been a really dull fight as well. Neither guy really pushing the action and Witter pot shoting his way to victory with no chance of a knockdown.

Think Witter turned down the fight because he thought he had a shot against Corley for his WBO belt but I might be mixing things up a bit

The Board had to give Witter the belt because nobody would fight him

Calslappy wouldn't have stopped Froch in a million years. Joe couldn't even stop Kabary Salem, or that limited New Zealander guy I can't even remember the name of.

I think Joe would have won on points but it would have been hell for him as he was always willing to get in the trenches and catch right hands.

if calzaghe wanted to he could ko froch, he decked eubanks ,he ko'd 21 of his first 22 fights he was a real KO puncher , he changed his style because of hand damage ,if he wanted to he could be a banger again for one fight and froch has the type of face you want to KO ....calzaghe's hands might be f@cked after but he could do it .....you really don't know sh1t ,do you :D :D

Yes, according to recent interviews Calzaghe's left hand is now so damaged it is permanently swollen, deformed and unable to make a fist. It's amazing he was able to keep going as long as he did. It must have been incredibly painful come the Jones and Hopkins fights.

Every post he makes has to be a big bold post that rubbishes something, never any balance to them and it's difficult to take anyone who calls him Calslappy seriously. Froch is too slow to have a chance, I genuinely don't think he wins a round, Calzaghe wouldn't sit in front of him, he'd keep moving and box Froch's head off, I don't see much difference between a Calzaghe-Froch fight and the Lacy fight, except that McCracken would have the sense to pull Froch out.

hey bro I was stating an opinion, and rather more coherently than that illiterate troll you quoted, oops there I go again.

True Calzaghe did have some pop in the early days but he did turn to volume slapping due to the aforementioned hand problems, resulting in a lot of guys he faced being able to see the final bell against him, and a lot of them were nowhere near as good or tough as Froch. (Ashira, New Zealand guy, Salem, Jimenez...) I think everyone would agree that Froch is a hell of a lot better than Lacy and would have dominated Jeff in a similar style. As it happened Calzaghe wasn't the type of pure boxer to give Froch fits but always seemed to have spells in his fights where he got involved, which would play into Froch's hands, giving Carl some success in the fight. However I like Calzaghe in this one and I think Joe would have outworked Froch to win a close but clear decision, with the disparity in ability about the same as the Calzaghe/Kessler fight.

Hope that's balanced enough for you.

Exactly right. My real pet-hate with the sport. Along with the words: the fight can wait, it will be bigger when there is a world title involved... Crock of sh1t!

I kind of agree, it probably would be bigger but it requires both fighters to get to that level which is easier said than done.
