We'll in that case it becomes a fantasy p4p match up... And Hatton beats Tel up.

I won't quibble with you over the in's and out's of the weigh ins, my opinion is based on just picturing the vicious hiding that Hatton would undoubtably dish out to Marsh. Terry was in the right place at the right time, a good European level fighter who was matched right and made it to world level for a short time. Well done to him, and good luck to him, but Hatton was literally a different class.

Nicnut brings up a good point about comparing across eras.
Hatton would never have been a light-welter back in the 80s. Marsh would not have been a light-welter today.
It's like trying to judge, say, Arthur Abraham or Kelly Pavlik at middle. Saying "I don't know how they'd have got on vs Hagler" is unnecessary, because the point is moot: Abraham couldn't've made middle on the same day without keeling over on his way to the ring. If he was made to, Hagler would've killed him, because AA would've been so dehydrated he'd be likely be facing serious injury.
It's best to keep this in mind when talking about cross-era matchups, especially with massive drainers. It's changed the landscape of the sport so much these days, exploiting a "safety" loophole for a physical advantage.
Hatton was unarguably the superior fighter, imo, but no fuckin' way he makes ten stone on the day & looks like he did vs Tszyu, for instance (who was a fvcking middleweight near enough himself)...

didn't marsh win the IBF version of the world title and weren't the IBF one of the first to support day before weigh ins?
admittedly I'm shit with dates / years.

It was around that time, after Mancini-Kim, that fights started to become 12 rounds with day before weigh ins, but Marsh's world title fights were 15 rounders so I'm not sure about the weigh ins.

So what did FW do to Marsh exactly? It seems a little odd that Hatton is quite tarnished by drug abuse, etc and yet Marsh is held up as a reasonably respectable citizen who once had a run at becoming an MP.

FW took Marsh to the IBF title but Marsh was very unhappy about the purse for the defence(he wasn't capable of selling out the MEN) so decided to sell his story to the sun in the lead up to the fight that he was epileptic and had to retire. The first FW knew about this was reading it in the newspaper and it obv ruined the show, contracts had been signed for the challenger etc.
With the decent money he was having from the article plus Marsh had also started commentary's he thought this was enough to have a decent living. However when he turned up next to do the commentary(on a FW show) he was banned from entering the arena, and they had flown McGuigan over to do it instead. This in fact was the Barry first got the job behind the mike.
Marsh returned in disguise, dressed as father Xmas, but was recognised and got a proper hiding from the security for his trouble!

Terry was one of the first guys I started following; whilst all my spotty mates were absolutely obsessed with football or rugby, I kept a newspaper scrapbook with guys like Honeyghan, Marsh, Bruno and Kaylor etc in it.
Annoyingly, I missed the Manley fight (possibly due to the fact we were a one TV house!) but I got to see the Kameda defence and Marsh really pulled that one out of the bag as he got a seriously bad cut.
He was a decent fighter, extremely fit and determined as he was an ex-marine, but I am pretty sure Hatton would have rolled-over him at either light-welter or welter. There's a chance Witter would have done the same as well....although that fight would have been far more in the balance.
