Agree with this. Enjoyed the first few hundred or so pages where I felt you got a good understanding of how he became what he was, but it gets very tedious in his post-prison years and is just a never-ending sequence of drug-taking, sex and violence that could have been shortened.

I'm half-way through The Hate Game that looks at the Benn-Eubank rivalry and I'm finding it to be an excellent read. Next on the bookshelf is The Hurt Business, edited by George Kimball.

If you want a non-boxing sports read, look no further than Robert Enke; A Life Too Short. Obviously if you've never heard of Enke it may not appeal....

I don't even like footie and I bought that, it's a great read. Same with the Kimmage book about Matt Hampson (Engage), both really worthwhile reads.

Whoever asked about books on heavyweights - Bob Mee's book is a decent read but it's more a bio of heavyweights than any sort of narrative of the title or "history" per se. I'd say get that and the latest "ultimate" encyclopaedia of boxing that he works on too.

I got the ultimate knockout edition of the Tyson film on blu for about 3 quid, bizarrely it basically has as extras the four hour version of the ESPN special they did which is his first 19-20 fights or so (excluding the one that wasn't film plus one or two random fights they don't have rights for), which was mildly diverting for a few hours. It's kinda annoying though because it's very disjointed and split into 3 parts so becomes very repetitive.

Am halfway through Adam Smith's book "beautiful brutality". It's easy reading but a bit disappointing so far, seems like a rambling collection of half interesting anecdotes from his 20 years at Sky but - as with criticisms on here about Hatton's latest book - there just doesn't seem to be the detail to justify writing a fxxking book in the first place. It reads as if he's sat next to you in the pub waffling on about this and that. I prefer a bit more detail to be honest. I am probably old fashioned, to me you should write a book when you've something interesting to fill it with, these days a lot of books are written because everyone else is doing it.

On the other hand I picked up "beautiful brutality" at poundland so I can't really grumble. Glad I didn't fork out the cover price for it.
