An interim belt is what it should of been, that or a final eliminator. You dont deserve the WBA belt unless you fight Golovkin.
While I don't disagree with most of the sentiments being raised here, it's worth looking back at the lineage of the belt currently held by Golovkin.
Felix Sturm was the WBA Champion since regaining it from Javier Castillejo in 2007. This was back when there were no Super Champions and Interims were used mostly legitimately.
Sturm defended this belt a number of times until he was arbitrarily upgraded to Super Champion by the WBA (not through a unification or other obvious means) in 2010.
Sturm defended and retained his Super title until defeat to Daniel Geale in 2012.
Meanwhile, Golovkin won the vacant Interim WBA title by beating Milton Nunez in August 2010. Handily, by the time of his next fight in December 2010, Sturm had been upgraded, so Golovkin was upgraded to "normal" champion too. Golovkin now held the belt he does today.
While Sturm and Golovkin were allowed to not fight each other for over 2 years while both holding WBA belts, Daniel Geale was stripped of the title within 2 months for not fighting Golovkin. This meant that the Super title was vacated/redundant and automatically promoted Golovkin to the top of the WBA tree.
Now I'm not arguing that Golovkin is probably the best fighter around at 160, but its interesting to note that the route he took to get to where he is is the one that is being criticised as "ducking" when applied to Martin Murray. Golovkin has yet to meet another title holder and the belts he has won were either vacancies or awarded out of the ring.

I'd love to take the job, but I'm already the WBC Silver Bullsh*t Explainer and in this industry, there's no such thing as unification
Re: Martin Murray OUT of Monte Carlo bill
Magee can say he was the regular champion and Murray can say he was the interim champion.stujones wrote:No, Murray can call himself WBA interim world champion.... Magee's was upgraded.
Neither can say that they were the true WBA world champion, so the difference between their WBA bragging rights is minimal.

I'm not interimming. Except on every 3rd Sunday at a local specialist venue.

Fletcher confirmed that Murray has pulled out
Re: Martin Murray OUT of Monte Carlo bill
Murray just seems like a diva now.
Re: Martin Murray OUT of Monte Carlo bill
Boxing scene are speculating that he could have pulled out to take a rematch with Sturm. If so, that would be a much more credible fight and worthy of some back tracking on here!
