John Inverdale
ever noticed how nealy just never ever ever stops talking during the bout?? compare that if u can to the old harry carpenter commentaries he let the boxing talk only adding bits where it mattered.
By the way what happened to Hagler commentating?? they should pull out the stops and get the marvellous one back. he told it exactly like it was. remember how critical he was of audley at times instead of this sychophantic crap we get now??
ahhh i think i just answered my question!

Oh yes....Inverdale is one smug rugger bugger totally in love with himself oblivious to the contempt and ridicule in which he is viewed by the rest of us.
Neilly....well its just unfortunate. He's obviously an old pro. And he tries hard. And I suppose he has some kind of boxing knowledge.
Its just he's usually wrong about things, not a very accurate commentator and reduces the buzz of a big fight to the excitement level of the commonwealth games twelve bore shooting reparcharge.
I can't explain Duke....he's a little ball of madness left over by visiting aliens.
Without a doubt Richie is a nice bloke but also without a doubt, definitely, he's pretty weak as a commentator.
Bunce? He's the bloke who corners you in a pub while others look on sympathetically. I can feel the saliva and pork scratching aroma bursting through the screen. You always feel the nightime is just a preparation for his mid morning recovery eggandbacon sandwich with guys like that. But by far, by a country mile, by a buncian metaphor, by a million hawaian shirts and a trillion beanie hats, is he the best of this afermentioned sorry bunch.

Agree with that.
I get the feeling Bunce is trying to wake the rest of them up.
Surely some of his enthusiasm can rub off.
And Inverdale?...At least he shows up, but he should stick to Tennis and rugby.
But if he goes missing please don't bring that lump who presented it before him. That bloke and Clare Spalding just made me cringe with embarrassment.

At least he's better than Jim Rosenthal. Rose the Nose used to ruin boxing for me.
No serious boxing journalist is going to look to the BBC boxing coverage to be the sole outlet of his creative juices, so anchormen are always going to be generalists. In that respect, his brief is evidently to 'educate' as many of us simpletons as possible as to why the world would stop turning without Big Audley. That said, he could do a little more research.
I don't give a rat's ass that he wears jeans. And laconic is his style. I've actually played rugby against him and he's a nice guy (but a crap player), but same style of talking to anyone as he presents. In that respect, he's a nice foil to Bunce, who I don't really warm to as I feel he's going hyper to try and make himself into a personality. I can see him doing the Bush Tucker Challenge with Bob Carolgees in a year's time...

Steve: let's get it right john.
Richie: Oh, absolutely jim.
Jim: well that was one of if not the best performance certainly in a British ring from Harrison of the Audley variety but he'll need more of the same. This is certainly one of the best fights since Antonio Vargas battled Willy Yoppy in Texas.
Steve: I saw Sam bash up Audley in Texas. THAT fight is THE fight that needs to be made. Let's get it on John Trouble is, Vargas wants 2 mill, Yoppy wants 2 mill, that fight with Howard Eastman WILLbe made. This time next year we'll be seeing Audley KO Vitali cold in Vegas. Lets get it on!
John: People are questioning Audley, when is he going to fight someone his size?
Richie: Oh, absolutely jim. Great stuff.
Hazel Irvine: Well, I've been drafted in now, so, what did you think Claire.
Claire Balding: Oh, wonderful pedigree. He's a throughbred of a fighter. The ring is going good to square, this should favour Harrison. Over to Sue Barker at ringside.
Duke: WHOOOAHAH, HARRISON'S GOT HIM! ARGHHHHHHHH! THIS KID'S GOT THE WIN IN THE BIN! WWWWWHHHHHHHHHAAAAA!!!!!! HIS EYE IS HANGING OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You see where this will go? Hazel Irvine will be presenting the boxing before the year is out, with Claire Balding as the sole pundit. Yui wouldn't put it past the stupid/pc/trying to promote gender equality/BBC.

I also remember Nigel Benn being on the BBC and telling it like it is about Audley Harrison.neil r wrote:By the way what happened to Hagler commentating?? they should pull out the stops and get the marvellous one back. he told it exactly like it was. remember how critical he was of audley at times instead of this sychophantic crap we get now??

Legend.
Why don't they swap McKenzie and Woodhall around, or maybe better still do what we have in the Rubgy on BBC Wales, Jonathon Davies is the co-commentator and the main analyst. He runs around all the time, he is the best talker in Rugby, like Richie is with the boxing, so why not use him all the time.

They need to make John Rawling the permanent commentator. Bung Richie in with John. Then, have Mike Costello regularly doing the interviews, he's crap but much better than Richardson. On the presenting front I'm stumped, but I think Ronald MacIntosh would be better than John Inverdale? Big Ron hasn't looked great in that role (too ugly) but he has a 'safe' approach which is boring but, well, safe. Then, bring back Claude Abrams. I'll never forgive him for saying Danny Williams did well to get up from the knockdowns against Samil Sam 'Those were knockout punches' but he's better than the loud idiot Bunce. Then, put Duke in the 'loud pundit' role just because there is noone else and at least he's funnier than Steve...
Looks bleak.

Perhaps, they can also look at the ITV football presenters, the likes of Matt Smith and even Des might be as good an alternative as Inverdale. Des has does well in other sports and Matt Smith seems to have a bright future. Isn't that Craig Doyle a bit a boxing fan?Riddick Blowe wrote:They need to make John Rawling the permanent commentator. I would prefer John Inverdale to Ronald McIntosh. Just I hope they won't resort to Mark Bright or that guy of the money programme again.
Yes Stu I thought exactly the same after the first interview, but he was better the second time.stujones wrote:Nervous at first, I did initially think Ayers sounded a bit "punchy", but it was nerves and towards the end was getting more confident.bennie wrote:Incidentally, I thought Michael Ayers was very good during the Lynes-Sarmiento clash.
Still didn't seem anything like as sharp as when he was fighting. That's one thing that always stood out with Ayers apart from his exciting fighting style, his great post fight interviews. You never got any bullshit.
