i see steve bunce say that his kids was in private school hence why he fights BUT private school doesn't promise anything ,when i left school i worked in a warehouse for about 6 months and the guy i worked alongside had been privately schooled all his live probably cost his parents £100,000/£150,000 yet he was 25 working in a warehouse on minimal wage .i have a mate now that has one at private school and now he wants his younger 2 boys to go to the same school which would cost nearly £50,000 a year he's an electrian and his wife a hair dresser and they can't afford it .now everyone has said to him why not just move to a better area with better schools but i think it's a snob thing as in they like to tell people they have a kid in private schooling may be williams is the same .

I recall posting about this exact same thing in relation to DW a while ago, as I went to (in order) a good private school, a shit private school, and a state sixth form college. Unsurprisingly, the good private school was the best, the shit one was the worst, and the state sixth form was somewhere in the middle (though much closer to the good private school than the shit one).

Having worked as a teacher myself in South Korea and the UK, with kids, teenagers and adults, the most important factor by far is not the amount of funding (SK's schools being far bigger and worse-funded than ours) but the underlying culture and the educational expectations of the parents. Independent school kids who don't give a fornicate are liable to do only marginally better in terms of educational achievement than their state-educated counterparts, hence your expensively-educated colleague making it as far as a minimum wage job at the age of 25. A cultural change whereby poor parents drove their kids to study hard when in school and develop their skills independently when not would achieve more than any amount of funding.

You make good points there. My uncle grew up on a council estate but yet worked his bollocks off *was constantly in his room studying* when other kids were getting into trouble on the streets. He ended up at grammar school and eventually ended up at one of the Oxbridge colleges where he got a degree in Politics, Philosophy and economics. I think he found it tough being in that enviroment to begin with as all his fellow students were pretty much toffs or come from a monied background. He now heads up an investment fund in the city which only deals with "ethical" investments. Saying that though, he lives in Richmond/East sheen I think *havent been up there in years* and the cost of the upkeep of his house *victorian property* is so astronomical that even though he makes well over 100k a year it's still not enough really on top of paying for uni educations and what have you. He could of made a lot more if he wasnt focused on only working with investments which are "ethical" but he's a practicing catholic and that's important to him.
