I'm thinking so. The first fight was close. I saw it as an impressive showing for both men.

As far I am concerned, The great Pernell "Sweet Pea" Whitaker WAS THE BEST FIGHTER OF HIS ERA.

Maybe the best boxer but I'd put Ricardo Lopez right there with him; Chavez Snr was the best fighter of that era (imo).

Chavez could never out-fight Whitaker, though I understand what you're getting at. Even then, Holyfield > Chavez.
