Groves has 2 options. Go for the early KO or really box off the back foot as Carl has superior stamina and push for a points win by boxing smart and not getting hit. A similar but ore polished performance than what he did against Degale.

Got a feeling George is going to put it on him early.

Froch destroys Groves completely in the rematch.

Interesting how quite a few think Groves should box on the back foot to come out with a points decision. The main reason he was so successful in the first half of the first fight is because he did the exact opposite! I'm not saying he doesn't have the ability because he may well do, but on the other hand, if he's more cautious, Froch could end up steam rolling him. I've gone for a Froch late stoppage but not a single legitimate outcome of this fight would truly surprise me which is why it's a great fight!

He probably needs to be on the front foot, but he has to be more conservative and he is good enough to outbox Froch on the back foot, he's too quick and if he doesn't get pinned on the ropes he'll be pretty comfortable, or he could go on the front foot but throw less punches and not waste as much energy, the pace was too fast last time.

I've nailed my colours elsewhere, but I'll do it here as well. Groves comes in with a monkey on his back, trying to refind his confidence after being blasted all over the ring in the last round. He knew he was on his way to being stopped, he'd never been hit so hard before, and now he's scared of everything; scared of overdoing it and gassing, scared of getting caught big, scared that his career is gonna get ended. He's more cautious and safety first as a result, takes the early rounds boxing cautiously, but without really causing Froch any trouble. Froch, not hampered by recovering from a knockdown or from Groves making free with the right hand, takes over sooner, he's clearly grinding Groves down from around the 5th onward, and finishes Groves around the same time he did last time, but more clearly. Froch has one more big fight and retires, Groves struggles to rebuild his career after back to back stoppages.

He very nearly finished the job last time. When you spank someone after they've had such a good run early, it's all the more damaging; ask Jermaine Taylor.

Groves to finish off the job that the ref robbed him of last time. No knockdowns this time. Froch won't underestimate Groves again & will be well up for this but I think Groves will win a close fight maybe 7-5 or 8-4.

It's a shame. I've been a Froch fan since the off and I don't think he'll get that big Vegas bout. You never know in boxing though. I have been wrong once or twice before :DDD

Groves is too fast of hand and foot. Dirrel, Ward and Taylor all gave Froch fits, but none of them are big punchers. Groves is, and guess what, he badly hurt Froch last time.

I think Froch is delusional enough to forget that and will be all pumped up and then shocked when he starts getting the crap kicked out of him again. Groves is all wrong for him.

People talk about Froch's come from behind win against Taylor, but people forget that Pavlik had already taken care of Taylor in 7 rounds and then again in the rematch.

i think you are forgetting froch got the stoppage, and regardless of the early call the vast majority on this site thought groves was finished anyway.

If you read the posts from the night of the fight, there was outrage that it had been stopped. Also, if you watch the 9th round, it was a burst from Froch, which he might not have been able to sustain and Groves was firing back and looked pretty switched on to me when arguing with the ref about the stoppage.

I think Froch is going to prepare diligently, as he always does, will be spurred on by his home crowd like he was against Bute and go out with real intent and then get his clock cleaned, good and proper.

Dirrel, Ward and Taylor are all a lot more slick than Groves. Dirrell and Taylor both lost, let's not forget that either. Ward fought incredibly negatively for the most part, flinging himself to the canvas every time Froch threatened to engage with him, and Taylor, well, Carl did what he is capable doing, turned the fight around with seconds left in the bout.

Whatever Groves does, Carl will remain dangerous until the last second the the final round should it go that far.

I thought Dirrell won, quite clearly and I also thought Ward took it straight to Carl in the first round. Carl couldn't handle Ward's physical strength.

If Groves tries to fight on the back foot, he'll get swamped and overpowered by the 10th round.
His best chance is to come forward, like he did last time. To me, his only chances are; early stoppage or vastly improving his stamina and ability to box at such a fast pace for 12 rounds.

I don't think he'll do either.
Froch catches up with him in the last few rounds after George takes the early parts.

I agree with both these points. Dirrell, who I wanted to lose, won that fight and Ward was pushing Froch around from the outset, and hitting him with a lot of left hooks.

True but i also don't think Ward ever really hurt Froch. He was a massively clear winner but even in that fight Froch improved towards the latter rounds. He's got unreal stamina. I remember the build up to Kessler 2 saying he's kept a book of timed runs and weights etc ever since he started boxing and at 35 (at the time) he was breaking all his records. He's a freak.

Maybe not hurt like Groves did but Carl looked very uncomfortable in the first when he realised he was in with the stronger man.

I think that same thing is going to happen.

Groves will outspeed & outbox Froch for 3/4 of the fight, but his suspect stamina will let him down due to that fast pace he will need to see & he will tire & Froch will stop him.

You know Sam I find myself agreeing with every damn post you make, this is exactly how I see it too. :TU:

Froch will have no such worries.

That's huge mentally and it'll mean Groves will inevitably start slower and take no chances early. That plays into Froch's hands and allows Carl to feel his way into the fight so he's in a position to turn it up in the later rounds and manhandle Groves to another stoppage win.

Ward had a damaged right hand. I think he would stop Froch next time. There won't be a next time, because Froch has showed no real interest in getting back in the ring with him. Wise move.

Even I agree with that.
If George trades off a bit off his workrate, he might be able to extend his tank a bit more - but that will be letting a better-prepared Froch right into it.

I think he needs to go for bust in the first 4 rounds. Then retire with a hand injury when he hits empty rather than end up flat on his back.

He can't maul and hustle Carl, like Andre Ward could and even he was looking everywhere for the clock in the final round. Groves has to go completely for broke.

Ward was a high standard college wrestler. He would be almost impossible to beat on the inside.
