It was a HUGE shock... But more so because few thought much of foreman prior to his smashing Frazier. He was viewed as slow, clumsy, and limited. Frazier had already looked lackluster in his last two fights following his meeting with Ali and developing more and more health issues. One of the guys in his camp was interviewed and said that Frazier acted more like a cruise line director at training camp for the foreman fight than he did a world champ preparing to defend his title.

Beat a lot of good fighters, but never beat a Great One. As a matter of fact, he never faced a Great One either.

Who did your pick as No 1 Heavyweight Jack Dempsey beat who was great?

Whomever it is, Miske or Sharkey, Patterson would have an argument.

="SaadOffTheDeck"] While there might not be a million even money fights with two prime guys, there is certainly tens of thousands.
I think that number is a bit high, especially if we're talking specifically about battles between two "great" fighters, and not just ANY two even money guys.

Even in more modern era's you can spit them out rapidly off of the top of your head. Floyd/Chico, Floyd/Castillo, DLH/Mosley, DLH/Tito, Hopkins/Tito, etc..
It depends. Opinions vary on the level of greatness of some of the men you listed, weather or not they were fully primed and fighting at their best weights. Golden boy vs Sugar Shane is one example of yours that I agree with or at least in their first meeting. Tito was over his head against Hopkins when moving up in weight. I didn't see Floyd vs Castillo or Chico.

Tito was favored over Hopkins and Corrales was favored over Floyd. While that number is inflated, it's not nearly as rare as you're making it out to be.

P.S. I'm going to give you a pass on that one. Anymore posts directed at me in a broken down manner will get the patented

I don't know why you take issue with breaking down posts and trying to address each point directly. I find it easier that way. As for the rarity of match-ups where two men who are universally recognized as two greats in their primes and at ideal weights meeting each other, I'd say its not very common. But that's just my opinion.

It's not that I take issue with it, I just don't care to read them under that format. I've told you a few times. It's no big deal, I just figured I'd mention it one last time as I assume when you address a post to me you would like me to read it.

Fair enough, but if you're responses get lengthy than its easier for me to take them apart rather than to write one giant paragraph addressing a novel. the last one wasn't one such example.

And adding to that fine list, I will also mention Bob Pastor. Though I may be a minority in classifying him as great.

Louis fought a ton of excellent fighters. The 'bum of the month' was more an indictment of how unbeatable he was and is taken out of context now.

Absolutely. It had little or nothing to do with the actual quality of the fighters. He did fight several less than deserving men, but inevitably so will any long reigning champion.

I know it's subjective & we all have opinions that are valid & should be respected, but I've never considered, nor have I heard Tua referred to as great.

LMAO @ Golota and Tua.

Hamed and Gatti while we're at it. They at least managed to pick up some belts along the way.

You're not serious are you.........

Is that your best answer? Terminally ill Billy Miske? Controversial win vs not so great Sharkey? Tommy Gibbons weighing 175lb? Come on numb nuts, why is Jack Dempsey the best?
