True, but they also bank a million quid.columbo wrote:That happens with most of matchroom's fighters when they fight for world titles aswell.hurlock wrote:
Boxing in people's back yards aren't hard to make fights!!! Murray is proven & credible & ain't going to be anyone's yardstick. Hatton promotions stink!!
I doubt Barker banked a million quid when he went over to challenge Geale. The same for when Purdy fought Alexander and also probably the same goes for when Rose likely challenges Andrade in the States.bripez wrote:True, but they also bank a million quid.columbo wrote:That happens with most of matchroom's fighters when they fight for world titles aswell.hurlock wrote:

I wonder how much Murray was paid for his fights and what the options/terms/purses were stipulated to be if he had won?
After the rhetoric from Hatton when he started promoting and looking what he has delivered I wouldn't believe a word he says any more than other promoters - they all seem to reveal certain bits to suit their own personal agenda but do not tell the full story.
To be fair the Geale fight wasn't Geale's back yard and there was hardly an enormous gulf in class there that there was for Purdy v Alexander.columbo wrote:bripez wrote:I doubt Barker banked a million quid when he went over to challenge Geale. Purdy threw away some of his purse by being a lazy bastard and not making weight.columbo wrote:I doubt Barker banked a million quid when he went over to challenge Geale. Yeah I definitely agree with that if indeed that is his thought process.columbo wrote: Na but the point I was making is that Murray is delusional if he think he's going to walk into million pound paydays off the bat.
I looked at Martin's twitter and there seemed to be a lot of stuff aimed at Poxon it seemed. Mainly about him being a "lanky twat".Bodyshot3 wrote:I can't work out whether it is the Hatton team calling time on Martin (which has to be worrying because promoters don't usually bin world-class middleweight contenders) because of Martin's supposedly difficult character and unrealistic demands. Or whether this is Ricky's team simply bringing matters to a head before Martin actually dumps them. All a bit confusing.
Plenty of fingers are being pointed straight at Richard Poxon as the source of the breakdown. He seems like an amiable enough guy who has Ricky's ear at the moment......but is he any good and the sort of player who can handle Murray and land the big fights he wants? Interested to hear people's views......good or bad.
Poxon got him Sturm and Martinez right, as well as the 2 recent offers?...Bodyshot3 wrote:I can't work out whether it is the Hatton team calling time on Martin (which has to be worrying because promoters don't usually bin world-class middleweight contenders) because of Martin's supposedly difficult character and unrealistic demands. We're not all in the know like you. Remember that.Parson Cross wrote:Can someone please explain to me how a Promotor can release a fighter when the contract has expired ?
They didn't offer him a new deal, in effect he was released at the end of his contract.Parson Cross wrote:Can someone please explain to me how a Promotor can release a fighter when the contract has expired ?
Is that a fact? It reads like a fact but it doesn't sound like a fact.expe wrote:They didn't offer him a new deal...
We can only go off what they say unless someone provides evidence otherwise.Aden wrote:Is that a fact? It reads like a fact but it doesn't sound like a fact.expe wrote:They didn't offer him a new deal...
Or, he told them he was leaving anyway, so no need for anyone to do anythingexpe wrote:They didn't offer him a new deal, in effect he was released at the end of his contract.Parson Cross wrote:Can someone please explain to me how a Promotor can release a fighter when the contract has expired ?
Looks like the boxing equivalent of knowing you're going to get dumped by your partner, so you try to get in first to save face ?Parson Cross wrote:Can someone please explain to me how a Promotor can release a fighter when the contract has expired ?
He sounds like he's totally delusional about what he thinks he's worth. On top of that it's funny how when they asked who he'd like to fight, Golovkin was nowhere to be seen. That kind of tells you everything you need to know. So much for the big talk in the past.
Having read what both sides have got to say, I think its fair to say that Ricky has struggled to deliver opportunities due to not having TV dates that pay him enough to put on a show. As a promoter you just can't build your stable and your business without that 100k a show from sky, or the equivalent from another channel. I imagine Ricky has done his level best but you cannot possibly balance the books otherwise. The lack of TV revenue leaves a black hole in the budget.columbo wrote:He sounds like he's totally delusional about what he thinks he's worth. He needs to get a grip, complaining because the Golovkin fight was in July and not by 31st May and that he wasn't getting paid enough for Sturm, pathetic. It isn't going to be handed to him on a plate and opportunities like those won't come up again.
Without knowing the exact details I don't know how you can call Murray "pathetic" or to "get a grip".expe wrote:He needs to get a grip, complaining because the Golovkin fight was in July and not by 31st May and that he wasn't getting paid enough for Sturm, pathetic. Complaining because he was offered a world title fight in July, because it wasn't in May, as he said himself, is pathetic, either you want the fight or you don't, he isn't the champion and the world doesn't revolve around him, get a fight in between, then go and fight Golovkin in July.bripez wrote:Without knowing the exact details I don't know how you can call Murray "pathetic" or to "get a grip".expe wrote:He needs to get a grip, complaining because the Golovkin fight was in July and not by 31st May and that he wasn't getting paid enough for Sturm, pathetic.
