If true I am surprised Curtis hasn't gone public with the details. I am sure the bookie who laid the bet would love all the free publicity which would more than offset their loss.

I was dubious too as I've seen lads try and make the same kind of bets who have either been told to go away, limited to a much lower stake, or offered far tighter odds. However, Parson Cross is typically a rock solid source so if he says it's right, that's good enough for me. I hope it's right, I love stuff like that.
The difference is, the bookie would have no knowledge of who most lads are. Woodhouse turned over with plenty of publicity and was known to have zero amateur experience.

hes only had 2 amateur fights
ive heard off these bets like the Father off the MAn utd lad who came on as a sub and netted his old man £1000s for achieveing his dream.
do you just go into the bookies and ask about it or is there an online request thing?

Probably not many, but how many of those would have been prepared to risk £250k for a £5k return?

High street bookmakers dont lay £5k at 50/1 on what is in effect a novalty market. £100 tops.

Agree mate, £5k sounds unbelievable as most bookies would see it as a big risk, after all he was already a sportsman so it's not entirely improbable that he'd be good at boxing also.
If it's £5k then he'd have had to go around about 10 bookies at least to get the money on.

50-1 seems very low odds for somebody who hadn't had a professional fight and it's not as if he had a glittering amateur career before becoming a pro.
I don't care either way, what he's achieved is fantastic.

I can't believe how much attention this is getting. He clearly said it tongue in cheek. Whether there's any truth in it or not and it's his business but who cares? People win more than £250k all the time from bets, Lotto etc. The real story is of CW winning the British title. Why are people expecting him to come on here to clarify the story? Let the bet story become part of the legend and move on.

I don't think he'd had an amateur fight either, that's probably why the bookie allowed him to stick £5,000 on, if it was £100, I suspect the odds would have been much higher.
