Jones on why Jones/Benn never happened

I remember Nicky Piper trying to explain in the studio why he was able to sympathise with some of the booing fans who felt a bit cheated by Benn (because of the pre-fight build up), but he never got the chance because McGuigan interupted and started muttering some shit about "Would you prefer to have seen Nigel laid out bloodied on a stretcher?". Piper should have chinned the bloke for saying that to him on live tv.

This is news to me mate, don't recall any comeback talk circa 2000 either. Maybe someone else remembers this interview etc.

It was the Jack Docherty Show on Channel 5. I don't know if the comeback talk was serious but it was mooted (did Nigel divorce? If yes, then it was around that time.). Collins also was going to comeback and I do sometimes get the timing mixed up.

BENN DID NOT QUIT :x his corner said to him at the end of rd 4 which was a bad rd for benn after the even start that they would give him one more rd. benn came back to his corner at the end of the 5th and asked for another rd and at the end of the 6th the corner pulled him out benn never said a word about wanting to quit.

the 1st collins fight wasn't a case of quitting either he twisted his ankle as he fell and couldn't go on

how can u say he quit after how he turned round the mclellan fight i'm not having that, benn was no quitter.

he proposed to his wife after the malinga fight

he was emotional after losing and cos of the gr8 support he got that night from the geordies. he also announced his retirement which he reneged on after being offered the collins fight. he also said he'd quit after the 1st collins fight but was tempted by the rematch cos of the unsatisfactory way the fight ended.
