Egan passed away in 1849, am I right? So, explain again the above statement? I understand boxing's first contribution to film occurring in 1894.

According to Boddy's book, she refers to Martin Eden and Jack London when picks up the theme of film and boxing. Firstly, with Thomas Edison's Kinetoscope with the first Kinetoscope parlor opening in 1894 (cited by Terry Ramsaye). The first boxing film, Boddy writes, was made in August 1894 and consisted of six rounds of a minute each between minor prize fighters, Mick Leonard and Jack Cushing. As technology developed, Dan Stuart was the first promoter to recognise that he could earn more in film distribution than gate receipts and Corbett-Robert Fitzsimmons (1897) fight was recorded.....

Roughly three-quarters of Boddy's book covers a period after Egan had passed away, although his work is well referenced in the earlier. All I am saying, is in one book I do not see the culture of boxing covered more comprehensively by another writer, which is why I salute Boddy's work. That is the only comparison I am making with Egan and any of the other great writers.

Kasia Boddy's book is enjoyable but the majority of it is a compilation of existing knowledge. she shouldnt take all the credit.

It is a painstakingly rigorous compilation, that is the point, she put it all together. A brilliant effort.[/quote]

id suggest someone like pierce egan is more deserving of the plaudits for painstakingly rigorous compilation. particularly when it comes to the info on the golden age of bareknuckle boxing which boddy contributes nothing to that isnt already out there.[/quote]


Of course there are a plethora of writers, historians who have made great contributions, but Parson's isn't one of them. I personally thought, that in one book on the theme of ' the culture of boxing' Boddy put together a definitive compilation, beyond Egan's years of works. For example boxing's contribution to the development of cinema, television and so on. I never said Boddy contributed anything that was not already out there, the point is that in one book she has brought together an enormous contribution, which evidently is heavily researched.[/quote]
