Pure Mathematics is rock hard.... my brother is doing it, okay he is heading for a first class honours but he is doing it very much on a part time basis and can really focus on the course. He has shown my some of his lecture notes and examination papers..... and that was from the first year.... and I didn't have any idea what is was about. The questions are like 16 pages long!!

I think Clev did a pure mathematics degree and did it at the same time as being a world champion had a high class University, he'll be okay.

To get on to that course, if he didn't need to go via clearing was no mean feat.

He'd do okay out of the ring. Maybe not using his degree, but his profile and story is a good thing for most business' to pick him up.

In the pre-professional days of Rugby, how many international players with no qualifications to their name were on nice 30K (todays equivalent) jobs in marketing and recruitment.... loads.

It was a 2:2 but as it's that hard to get a degree in Maths anyway that it's a 1st in some other topics, good lad. I do think WelshJack may just be a bit pro Nathan though, nothing to do with the welsh connection eh?

I think I read somewhere that Cleverly got 4 A's at A'Level.

Not knocking the lad 'cause getting a degree whilst being a pro boxer is an amazing achievement. Just saying, maybe he needs to box? Bellew seems to think he's lost the heart for it.
A 2.2 with a World title on your cv would swing it for someone in the city.

WelshJack wrote:Thing is Cleverly never talks about his Maths degree. Is Bellew jus upset Clev is a better boxer and even when he is done with it he can get a well paid job if he needs to.
Better boxer? he got his head boxed off when they fought! Bellew ran out of gas in the last rounds but have a look back on the fight and listen to the commentators they say cleverly is getting a boxing lesson.

Bellew had no intention of talking about cleverly till he was asked by sky, so what would people have him do ignore the question?

The fact of the matter is they both dont like each other and the first fight was great to watch, it would sell out most arenas and it would make sense financially so why does cleverly not step up to the plate????????? seriously all he would have to do is come out and say he wants the fight thats all it would take? Cleverly wont even come out and let his whole 100 people fan base know he is still fighting and hasnt retired. He got beat bad but lots of boxers do, he needs to brush the loss off and get back into the mix instead of feeling sorry for himself.

Oh and that comment about cleverly will get a good job when he retires if he wants coz he has a degree in maths made me laugh hahaha
It will get him a very average job. Having a degree means nothing these days at all. Bellew could join the sky commentary team and be on allot more than clev would be as an accountant or working in a bank. But seriously who in their right mind cares how much a boxer will earl when he ends his career this is a boxing forum not financial forum :KO:

A chartered accountant will be on an awful lot more than an occasional Sky pundit. When would they use him? The occasional domestic light heavy fight?

Bellew would have won that if he'd have stuck to doubling the jab

Bellew should have got an immediate rematch in Liverpool - and continued to get immediate rematches in Liverpool until he won.

FW can be an ingrate sometimes.

Why would they employ Bellew on a salary? There is loads more deserving. He's not even impartial. He once had scousers in about 8 of his top ten p4p boxers! The other two were his gym mates...

A maths degree is no guarantee of high income employment.

I don't think Cleverley will end up boxing at cruiserweight. He is working with Adam Booth now isn't he? Booth will get him dusted off and brought back for another crack at light heavy I reckon.

Generally a maths degree will get you into a job better than an A level, an A level will get you a better job than an O level and an O level is better than no O level - though there is no guarantee I'd say Cleverley is in a better position than most boxers.

Probably, but the same or worse position than the thousands of job hunters that hit the market every year.

It's a fair comment but someone with a maths degree will be able to go for jobs that require a maths degree; the many thousands without won't be able to. Nathan also has the 'celebrity' aspect - a firm may be more inclined to take him on because he was a success in another field. I do not imagine Nathan struggling for work.

I don't know if he needs to work and I am sure he will find work should he need to, but at best boxing won't hurt his chances if he decides to try and get a job in accountancy or whatever. More likely it will work against him as being a boxer brings zero positives to the roll but does mean that after investing in training him etc, he may do as almost all boxers do and return to the ring. There are plenty of qualified people who are less of a flight risk.

Experienced financial sector workers on here have said before that Nathan's Boxing achievements will undoubtedly open doors in certain firms.

I don't know how to post links and stuff, but just reading the Sports section of the Daily Mail Online it has an article about a "Twitter spat" between Bellew and Cleverly - Cleverley calling him a gob shite !

When not facing foreign men without any vowels in their names, both Bellew and Cleverly are great for British Boxing.

They both need domestic rivals to really strike a nerve with the British public - and are a perfect fit for each other.

Both faced big-punching light-heavyweights, both got knocked out and admitted defeat on the scales and moved up to Cruiser.

We need a polished and confident performance from Clev at the new weight limit, and then the scene is set for the rematch.

It's a testament to allegedly's promoting skills that people even talk about Bellew and Cleverly. Neither are world class and never will be.

They don't have to be world class for it to be a decent bout worth watching. Bellew doesn't need a promoter, just a camera and a tape recorder; his gob is faster than his jab.

It wasn't a great fight the last time. Bellew was too cautious and careful, and Cleverly was stealing rounds.

Bellew's an eejit, and agreed if he could fight as good as he could talk, he'd be up there with the ATGs!

Not got an issue with Cleverly really, just get annoyed at Bellew's constant moaning.

Belles gets on with it , he's put his foot on the first rung & he's getting asked about cleverley who is simply no way big enough or skillfull enough to fill the defecit!! But bellews jip sells this return & the fact he needs more fights & beef up to stand anychance of facing the big boys makes this a very good option of drawing fans & attention
