He is fighting Robin Deakin from the UK, by way of the Maltese boxing commission, Golden boy wanted him to have an easier opponent, to get his confidence back.
If Broner does go in against Deakin he'll be looking at loss number two.

Deakins record is misleading. :box:

On a more serious note, Khan has a serious whack to the body & that's Collazo's Achilles Heel, so to speak.

Could not happen to a better person ( Broner ), yes Khan will stop Collazo with body shots or wear him down with them, for a late round stoppage Collazo is well past his best and at his best he was just under top level.

Have to say "Good Call " that would be a great fight.

It seems as though a lot of opinions are being based off of one performance by Collazo. Before Ortiz his career looked done. Yes it was a good win but Ortiz has been through more turmoil than Khan.

Anytime Khan fights you worry he'll get caught, but really he should win this fight comfortably. Collazo isn't a puncher regardless of his last performance. Khan's speed and workrate should see him through.

I dunno about that. He's only 32 and hasnt been in many really gruelling fights over the years due to being a pretty cagey boxer.

Don't know where you get your confidence for Collazo, going all the way back to Hatton, Collazo has always come up short against the top fighters, forget the Ortiz result, Ortiz quits all the time now, his heart is not in it, take away this result and the Khan fight would not have happened, Collazo is renowned for his dislike of body shots, Khan will be aware of this fact. Remember the body shots that wore down Mallinaggi and the one that hurt Maidana ? Anyone else done that to Maidana ?

Fair play to Khan; tough fight.

Initially I was with Gomez (lumping on Collazo via ko) but if Khan can find his best form I think he can do a number on Collazo. An old Shane Mosley completely out-boxed him and Khan has a very good record again southpaws. The main problem most orthodox fighters have with southpaws is keeping their front foot on the outside of a southpaw's front foot. Khan has fast feet as well as hands and is good at keep his front foot on the outside of a southpaw's, allowing him to get his shots off.

Going off Khan's last two performances, you'd have to go for Collazo as a clear favorite. However, I'm firmly on the fence with this one.

seems to me there is an awful lot of wishful thinking in the commonly-posted opinion that Collazo bangs Khan out.

to be fair i thought Alexander looked like he hurt Maidana to the body, and Josesito Lopez looked like he had some effect with bodyshots too

Tough fight for Khan, its always kind've surprising to see the amount of people that make out Khan wont fight anyway. Truth is he has been in the ring with plenty of solid world level guys and Collazo is no exception, especially considering his (self inflicted) lay off. As for the fight, I think it could be quite good fun, Collazo has the skills and timing to land hard on Khan, but I don't think he'll handle the speed of Khan at all well in the early rounds. I'll go with Khan by fairly wide decision, but obviously it wouldn't be a shock if Khan gets clipped on the way in and ends up KO'd. Collazo isn't as big a puncher as his win over Ortiz suggested, but he has more than enough pop to hurt Khan.

dont know why youve got start getting personal and trying to take the piss with my username....its juvenile and petty , but if thats what turns you on... at least i dont have to change my username like you.
theres no contradiction....big punching younger welters approaching their prime, like thurman, or brook, may be the really dangerous guys to fight. or established forces like pacman, or bradley...we all know that they are dangerous. if khan were to fight and beat guys like these , then we could say that he might deserve a try at mayweather. digging up a name that has been off the radar for many years just smacks of opportunism. collazo was a decent welterweight, but he's not been relevant for some time. the fact that i still think he could beat khan has no bearing on how good he is, cos i think that any genuine welter with half a brain and a decent dig can do the same.
if you had a properly functioning brain you might understand that i dont really rate amir khan as a top welterweight.

I can't believe 'levels' is being used as a reason to favour Amir Khan in this fight. What higher level has Khan proven himself to be on? And what is his body of work at welterweight for that matter? He fought the faded, old and fragile Diaz at catchweight and still looked flimsy and open.

Collazo is the exact opposite of Khan, a fighter given no opportunities. He's an experienced, full-blown welterweight. He was ripped off versus Ricky Hatton. His loss to Shane Mosley is immaterial as Mosley had none of Khan's vulnerability. He's vastly superior to Julio Diaz and coming off a far more impressive performance versus a waning opponent than Khan is. He's all-wrong for Khan, although I'm fairly certain most of the names at welterweight are wrong for Khan.

That's not 'hatred', it's just critical analysis.

Are you suggesting that Khan should be fighting Malignaggi rather than Collazo? The same guy that was broken down and comprehensively beaten by Amir not too long ago? The guy who is already fighting Shawn Porter for a title in a couple of weeks? Given this is on a Golden Boy show in 6 weeks time, thus eliminating a large number of potential opponents (Top Rank fighters, those who already have a fight lined up), Collazo is perfectly reasonable.

And if you go along with most of the posters on this thread, Khan doesn't have a hope against Luis, so it couldn't be a more dangerous fight!
not suggesting malignaggi as an opponent, as you say khan already beat him comprehensively before . i would like to know his thoughts as he has fought khan, and was a gym mate sparring partner and friend of collazo......

Sorry Jimcook, my mistake, was not intentional at all, just a miss print, I was not not getting personal, just highlighting the fact that on the one hand you are against the match up of Khan as not being a hard enough test, yet on the other you think Collazo will beat Khan, you can't get any harder match up, then someone who can beat you, also you mentioned Bradley as one of the dangerous guys, who Khan did not chose, yet if you remember Bradley would not fight Khan in a world title unification fight at light welter and instead moved up to welter, now, not saying Bradley was scared, because he is a warrior, but Khan did want to fight him then, even though he was unbeaten and a world champion.

Khan has got some really good scalps and is a gutsy and game boxer. He is very fast and has a style that brings the fans in, Collazo is a good bout and Luis is a serious competitor and challenge - he is not a destroyer though the Ortiz punch was a blinder. Luis is very strong but Khan, if he's settled into the weight and trained well will hit him hard 3 times to every one that comes close. It'll be a good bout with some scary moments (isn't every Khan bout the same?)

People seem to be forgetting in breaking down this fight that Khan looks caught between styles at the moment so all this " he'll hit him with such and such punches before Collazo get's off one" is naive I think.

I think Khan HAS to look good against Collazo despite beng inactive for over a year,he,s been in the gym plenty and the inactivity could be a blessing,as columbo says he is caught between styles at the moment so hopefully him and Hunter have had time to build up an understanding in the gym and Amir can produce what Virgil is trying to teach him without losing his punch output, combination punching and high workrate, they've had plenty time to work on the defensive side of things in the gym,Amir will never take a solid punch but he,s definitely talented enough to improve his defence massively

Incidently I'm still going with a Collazo stoppage by midway point
