Also, who did Jackson ever outbox? Thomas Tate? Hearns, as had been mentioned, outboxed Leonard. Jackson was clumsy, with limited skills.
Hearns was a very good boxer but relied on his height and reach - not on technique and defensive guile and versatile countering. Who did Hearns outbox who was the same size as him? Herol outboxed many men his size and taller with longer reach. That is the sign of a master boxer.
Hearns boxing skills were impeccable. Footwork, jab, reflexes, he had it all. Jackson had power. B level vs Elite level fighter IMO. Jackson's highlight reel looks good, but those guys he beat were not of the level of the guys Tommy beat.
Hey tom :salut: the discussion went toward Herol Graham and I said that Herol (not Jackson) was a better boxer than Hearns; though saad named 2 big fellows that Tommy outboxed out of his prime I do think that Herol was a better pure boxer given he did not have the reach and height advantages of Tommy.
I agree he didn't have the size Tommy did, however Hearns went up through the weights and fought much better comp than did Herol often out boxing or out punching bigger men. I think Graham was good but not great. I rate hearts as great. I think Tommy would have outboxed Graham too, then stopped him mid rounds. His jab and movement was incredible when he wasn't getting into wars :TU:

Watch Hearns vs Cuevas; he was punching Cuevas round like a rag doll, but his head movement and reflexes were superb; it was like hw wasn't there for Cuevas to hit. You'll rarely see a more complete boxing lesson. I've just watched a well past it Tommy outslicking a light heavyweight slickster in Virgil Hill, too. Anything like the Tommy that faced Cuevas is going to absolutely dismantle Jackson any way he chooses; that Tommy can go to war and still win.

What a great fight between 2 of the hardest hitters with chinny moments.
I think if they are both switched on it's a tough call to be honest. I can see Jackson dropping his slamdunk glove with Hearms out cold if I had to go for it. They were both very quick to so it would be blur, maybe a Codrington/Green moment :OhYes:

They are both enormous punchers, and either one could put the other one out with one enormous punch. Because Tommy Hearns is the better Boxer of the two by a very wide margin. I think he'd get his KO punch there first the majority of the time.

Tommy Hearns KO 3
