age has got nothing to do with it, as someone has already said if your good enough your old enough.
wasnt benitez a champion at 17?
lack of competative contests is what is strangling boxing at the moment and in the future it will probably be the end of it.
you could run the lets not rush him argument by me but why the gimmicks? by all means let him find his feet in the game but lets face it this whole charade is being set up for the novelty value and so he can do a number on a pair of fellas to look good on t.v.
this has got more to do with p.r than career development.

The Commonwealth title is my immediate concern, then I shall take it from there. I feel in myself that I am approaching my peak, and there is a lot more to come. I still have big ambitions.

kudos to you dean but then got overmatched too soon against colin mcmillan...............
No, I wasn't overmatched. The McMillan fight was a barnstormer, and the decision was jeered by McMillan's own London supporters. Ernie Fossey made the match with McMillan after watching me beat Deveney.

How do you think Mitchell would fare against today's British Champions i.e. Dazzo Williams, Michael Gomez or Bobby Vanzie, Graham Earl, depending on what weight he settles at?
in which case I apologise mate, props to ya for fighting someone that good that early in your career, my point on mitchell is give the kid a chance, everyone is slating him already and he is just a young un with plenty of potential and talent, lets at least give him that much respect b4 we start saying he is a protected SN cash cow....twas all, good luck mate with your c/wealth bid, ill be rooting for ya.

Whats the betting that Mitchell end up with a 40-0 record ...and never once fights anyone inside the WBC,WBA ranked top 10? :D

You can so see it happening.........

If FW is still in business then.

The sad thing about this is that the kid actually beleives he is winning meaningful contests.

Don't agree mate. Kevin had harder fights in the amatuers, and will undoubtedly know his current level of competition is below par. He will also know that he's building up a good local following, is only 19 and doesn't have to rush, and has still had less than 10 fights. - so theres plenty of time to be stepping up the competition.

Trouble with High profile fighters making there debut is some people expect them to fight King kong in there first few matches, would people care if mitchell was fighting these fighters without any hype, probably not. Mitchell is probably just making easy money first in his career and will step up next year

Not just making easy money, but building a good following of supporters to buy tickets later in his career. Most of the people who go to watch him aren't "real" boxing fans, and they want to see kevin knock people out fight after fight. If he keeps his paying punters happy, and builds up a good sized army of fans, that'll pay his wages for years to come.

Showing my age I suppose because I've seen it all before.
Take my close friend Ryan Rhodes as an example.
Lonsdale belt in record time, but then stepped up to World Title level at just 21 by days.
Too much, too quick, and it takes an age to get back.
Warren will ruin this kid like many before him and many after him.

If you are good anough you can be moved quick enough.

Look at Tony Ayala jnr, Wilfredo Benitez, Mike Tyson, Pipino Cuevas etc.

What irks me about Mitchell is that he's knocking over corpses. If he was knocking over decent six-round fighters, then, yes, praise the guy. But I swear anyone could knock over the guys he's been fighting and allegedly can't con me into believing otherwise.

Spot on, Ben.

I reckon I could KO these guys, and i'm 30-40lbs overweight.

Ryan Rhodes ...first saw him on holiday in Tenerife, where after haivng had 5 chaotic nights out on the trot, the lads stayed in and watched the "Spice Boy" beat up on some poor sod...

I remember at the time thinking he was really going places, and a few Sheffield lads I met on that holiday said he was far more popualr in Sheffield than Naz at the time.

He definitely got ruined... something went badly wrong with him...

You're not the only one who thought he was going places. I take Kieran's stance on this, he just wasn't ready for someone like Grant.

IMO, Rhodes suffered because he'd had it all his own way before that fight. He went from stopping most of his opponents inside a few rounds to fighting a genuine world class fighter. It was just too big a step.

I don't think his promoter did him many favours either, he seemed to fall right off the map after that fight. I seem to remember all the hype stopping and a period where it was tough to see any of his fights. It seemed to me that after that defeat he was somewhat cast aside.

I don't really see how that early world title shot hurt Rhodes. From what I remember he was fairly competitive, but just got out boxed by a more experienced fighter. The champ was a relatively light puncher, so he wasn't exactly ruined by it ( like Vargas and Reid maybe ).
Good learning fight it seemed, and he should've come back a better fighter for it.
Ryan's main problem is/was that he doen't hold a shot too well, and was found out when he stepped in with a big punching middleweight.
I remember he was nearly knocked out in the first round of his debut as well.

Everyone's fought better opposition than Mitchell, but in Murray's case, not much better.

I have seen Murray fight on a couple of occasions and have been impressed both times he does look a handy lad and again is very young. I did however notice he is in the hands of a very inexperienced trainer which I hope will not affect his career. Like I said he does look like a good British prospect and he is with a good promoter.
