Cleverley v Kovalev - the ref picked him up, gave him a cuddle and kiss didn't he :OhYes:
it's a hard sport, we all need a supportive ear from time to time or a friend to lean on :OhYes:
Kovalev sounds like one of the hardest punchers ever. Freakish. I didn't see it but it sounds reminiscent of say, Marvin Hagler just rocking up and beating up Alan Minter with minimal fuss.

Benn / Mclennan first round kd seemed to take an age, although Benn did go through the ropes

But he never left the apron. You only get extra time if you fall through the ropes and off the ring itself.

i think Benn got a considerable help up from one of the reporters in the front row. Forget his name. I reckon if they hadn't been sat there he may have gone over the edge.
I often get Middles and Super-middles mixed up, but...I wonder where McClellan fits into the picture. Had a hell of a reputation and was looking the part early in that fight. How would Gerald have done against let's say..Eubank/ Watson/ Collins/ Calzaghe.......or say, Leonard, Duran, Hagler, Hearns quartet?

Its very difficult to say.

The thing is, you could outbox mclennan. He wasn't the greatest boxer out of the names mentioned. The big thing about mclennan was his punch. My god he could punch! The guy was a freak of nature. I think he was working up to cleaning up the division in his peak when he met benn. I think it was his first fight at super middle if memory serves me correctly.

Roy Jones Jr (in his pomp I may add) turned down the fight and said he would never fight him. I think that shows how highly he was thought of in the game.

It was a stupid fight for benn to take as he could have fought michael nunn instead.

I find it surprising that a man like Roy Jones Jr. would a) baulk at a fight and b) make it known. I'm not disputing that what you are saying is correct but probably has to be viewed in some context. I don't think RJJ was a shrinking violet, or that he'd back down from a fight........of course "choosing an easier route and making just as much money" you could argue is smart thinking. But I doubt Roy Jones was running scared.

There was a bit in the late Jonathan Rendell book on boxing with Michael Nunn in it, sure it was Nunn.....he ended up boxing some younger guy in France didn't he at the end, and he was well past it. Supposed to be a top, top operator in his prime tho I think..

Taking the easier route is exactly what he did. Its sort of my point. Roy jones jr didn't want to fight mclennan as he knew how dangerous he was so turned away from it. Thats how good he was.

That's the longest count in history. Sure the ref went backwards at one stage ha 6,7... 7 and a half... 7 and 3 quarters..
At 7 amir went down and Marcus signalled for him to get up rather than count 8,9 & out
Just watched it again as i didn't remember a long count at the time. Go to about 27.30 on this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFCvETQnSU4. The ref should have continued counting rather than tell Amir to get up when he went down to a knee but he was up before the count would have reached 10.

Look at the ITV clock, Khan went down with 2:04 of the round remaining, at 1:56/1:55, he takes a knee, as the clock hits 1:54, he's still down on one knee, by the time he's risen, it's 1:53, if the referee had counted properly, Khan would have been counted out.

Well he went down a fraction before 2.03 and got up a fraction before 1.54. So the difference between being counted out and not is a fraction of a second so i just don't think it of it as an outrageously long count.

And if i'm being a little pedantic that would be because i can't face doing any work today so i'll be mostly replying to threads until hometime.

Chisora-Scott

Pretty sure that hasn't been queried.
