I see Martinez beating Cotto up and stopping him around 6-8 rounds. If Martinez can withstand someone as big as Chavez then I think he can handle Cotto easily who was quite small even for LMW never mind MW.

I'll happily be proved wrong, though. I've always been a fan of Cotto.

I'm really looking forward to this fight. Two ring legends having at it, and both men are definitely in the P4P top 15 or so.

But I'm going for Martinez, even though I'll be cheering Cotto.

Martinez for me if his hands don't go on him, like against Murray and Chevez jr, he has too much size and power, his skills are not too bad either.

Martinez looks mahoosive compared to Cotto. Ouch*!

I see a swift & brutal ending for Cotto (who weighed in at 155, 4 lbs under the catchweight).

Martinez will relish being the bigger man for once and has height, reach, speed & power advantages. I believe that he was in no condition for the Murray fight but went through with it as it was his big stadium homecoming and nearly came unstuck as he just hadn't recovered from his injuries/surgeries.

If he is back to the condition he went into the Chavez fight he rips through Cotto. Even if he is less mobile coming from fighting guys the size of Murray & Chavez even Macklin & Barker it shouldn't hurt him.

Martinez is an outstanding fighter who, due to injuries and facing way bigger opponents, suffered injuries that affected him about a year. I always felt ppl would "go off" Martinez once he stopped doing spectacular things - such as 5 knockdowns of dzinziruk and the one-punch KO of feared paul Williams.

HBO and the American media seem intent on creating a new fedor emilianenko (pride FC MMA legend) in both golovkin and kovalev. as such, late blooming champs like Martinez and Adonis Stevenson are taking flak for not facing them, even though these guys had their own title shots deferred by champs who'd rather fight someone else - Vernon forrest, aided by WBC and showtime, who faced mora twice rather than Martinez; and froch, whose mandatory was Stevenson but went for the name, Kessler, that made more sense...as such it's a shame the dent in the reputation of Martinez, near the end, who after the wait, the step up in weight for Williams and pavlik, surely deserves to go out on his own terms.

I see cotto as an attractive fight. cotto will burrow his way in and land good shots to head and body. it will catch fire. Martinez always engages fully with his challengers, trading blows, giving them a chance to land, and landing his own shots in the opening free swinging foes. I see a genuine fight - Martinez taking the shots that trout and mayweather were careful to avoid - but also landing with far more conviction than maybe anyone has ever landed on cotto. Martinez by stoppage in a good action fight, then. presuming that Martinez, given that he's here on the big stage, will produce and that the injuries he carries won't create some kind of barker-sturm farce.

Beautifully done mate, but I think we should all note Autobarn's dark prognostication of Barker vs Sturm-esque injury farce. I read that Martinez isn't going to be allowed to wear a knee brace (he's allowed to have it strapped but is forbidden from having it strapped to a level that qualifies as bionic, which is what he asked for originally) & cannot help but shudder in anticipation of a Cotto TD/retirement.

If the size difference was big at the weigh-in, it will be massive when they get in the ring. I see a late Martinez KO after Cotto gasses. I've loved watching him but this is a weight class too far. And Martinez seems genuinely p!ssed off with him.

Is it just me or does Martinez have freaky-looking eyes? Bit scary.

Serial killer eyes .... na in all seriousness I remember someone saying he looked like Brian Rose or the other way round it should be.

cotto is usually good in his first title fight or 2 at the weight. he was razor sharp vs pinto, first ever title fight (not rising in weight, he'd been there a while), then went flat. he moved to 147 and was razor sharp vs Quintana, then had several flat performances. he was good vs foreman at 154 then went off although his defensively thorough opponents had something to do with that.

especially in a big fight at a new(ish) weight, a fighter will sense openings and steal openings vs the bigger foe who's inevitably fought at a slower tempo. spinks-holmes 1, as just one example. and it can be harder for a bigger guy, or a guy who's settled into a bigger weight, to time a guy coming from a smaller weight class.

anyway, all goes well, Martinez will shake off some textbook cotto shots, find his range, start to get the better of fierce exchanges become the 3rd man to stop cotto (after margarita and pacquiao), hopefully in sensational fashion.

very pleased for Martinez, who put on a couple of outstanding performances in the UK around 10 years ago (can't believe it was that long ago); back then the dangerous and little known Martinez would've been lucky to get a fight with Puerto rico's Daniel santos on an undercard. how great that he made it to the big stage vs cotto.
