No one is trolling.
Some people disagree with you, accept it.
but you are very wrong. The fighter has to rise unaided.
Initially I thought yes, because Groves started to get up as he was waving it off and for a second we were set for more controversy, but seeing the state of Groves' legs as he tried to steady himself, the ref got it spot on, counting to 8 and waving it off would have been a complete waste of time.

Do you have a clip of the knockdown and Groves rising, so I can see whether Groves was aided or not?
His legs didn't seem to want to aid him, they were all over the place, another punch from Froch would have knocked him out cold, quite possibly for the second time in under 30 seconds, the long term effects of that are potentially severe.

Allowing Groves to get up isn't the same as allowing Groves to continue.
Groves was gone, simple. He could not get his leg out of the position it was so no way was he going to get up before 10. Also we are not in the killing game, the fighter was done, get the doc in and get him help. No one knows when the next Michael Watson tragedy will happen so why aid a possible death by counting. For me the ref was spot on, none of us was over the top of Groves face looking at him so how on earth can anyone here say a ten count should have happened.
Silly question this thread was and goes to show how some people do not fully understand boxing and serious injury and possible death.
Seriously? This is an actual thread on Boxrec? I thought we had people who knew what they were on about on here! There's always one I suppose.
He was sparked out for a few seconds, actually unconcious and then came back round. You can't let a man carry on after that he would have got brain damage.
The picture says it all, leg folded underneath himself, arms up in the air in a spasm. Not good.
He stood up after the doctors had a look at him and paddy had to grip him to stop him going over again. This was some 30 secs to a minute after the stoppage. They sat him down and put the oxygen on him for another minute or two before letting him stand up again.
The ref could have counted to 8 but it would have been irresponsible of him to do so.
No need for a count. Groves was done. However, fair play to the lad, he tried to get up and fight on. He would have beaten the count, but in no condition to continue. After such a shot that is feat in itself,

?
Was going to post my traditional diatribe about the dangers of concussion but this summarises it beautifully. Too many folk brave with another bloke's health. He said in the press conference he couldn't remember what Froch said to him in the ring ffs!
I think everybody needs to stop wetting their pants about my OP
If you read what i said, i put a few disclaimers in there.
I'm not saying he should have been allowed to carry on. and i'm not saying this out of some straw clutching attempt to discredit Froch
I'm asking should he have counted?
As Horse points out. At least if you count, then you give the guy a few seconds to see if he is able to get back to his feet. It also then gives you the opportunity to look at the guy and see in his eyes if he is fit to continue. As it happened he was bundled straight into his seat and oxygen administered.
If you had assessed the situation in the first fight, the split second froch hit the cavas, you'd probably say he was gone. Froch was allowed to continue in a wobbly state in which he could have been hurt in the next few rounds.
All i'm saying is, for the sake of a couple seconds, he could have seen that gearge was able to get back to his feet. No hindsight required, just give him the opportunity to try.
Once he is back up, complete the 8 count, assess his condition and if he's done send him to his corner.

is right. And it was the same reason Howard Foster stopped the first fight.

Groves leg was nudged from under himself.
So he was aided, therefore fight is over.

Froch's leg wasnt folded underneath his body though or laying motionless for 4 or whatever seconds.
