I LIKE GOMEZ, his movement and picking of shots especially mixing it up much better to head and body, he tucks his chin low and is better defensively now than he was.

He is blatently off his nut though, but I quite like that, loved him psyching himself up before the fight reminds me of the old rugby days!!!

I say give him a shot against Coralles why not he is a bit chinny, sure he may get beat but then he could come back and beat arthur, nothing lost! No problem, he may not have much of a chance but who gave Honeygun a chance against Don curry....

nothing ventured.....

I see what you are saying J, but Gomez is not in the same league as Lloyd Honeyghan.

Agreed BUT.......
We dont know that for sure he is developing and its easy to say this mate when he hasnt been given the chance, it was the 1986 ring magazine upset of the year when he beat curry.

Lloyd went on to use this as platform for bigger and better things, gomez possibly could do the same.

I say go for it we are constanlty moaning about fighters being undermatched this is chance to graps the nettle

I've said it before and I know I'm in the minority - I definitely give Gomez a chance against Corrales AND Casamayor. Indeed, he has his weaknesses but I feel the pair are over-rated. Big time.

Gomez-Brodie would be a good fight to watch but surely Mike deserves a couple of easy nights!

No way would he beat Casamayor. That guy has experience you just can't bet against. No way. He'd get outboxed to nonsense.

I think the fact that Gomez has got his act together spells good things for his career, and he seems to have improved since his early days, he is almost certainly fitter and more motivated than ever, and he's still young.

Who cares if he can't beat Cassamayor or Corrales, not many people can, and there's certainly no harm in him trying, at least he WANTS to prove himself against the best, which is more than can be said of some of our domestic fighters.

Yes, I do want him to step up as well, but I want him to step up and win. Surely going immediately for these guys ain't the best option when the best person he has beaten is Alex Arthur. How about getting him in with the European Champion?

i dunno I reckon he has more than a punchers chance agianst Diego.

be an interesting first half of the fight. if it goes further than that then game over mind.

Dont forget Arthur was the next Ken Buchanen accordingly to Sky before he got the shit thumped out of him

This thread's early comments started with Gomez not having a chance against the division's big boys yet he would destroy Brodie :-?

I am assuming this is because of the massive 4 pound weight difference that leads to such opinions.

Not just that but also the fact that Brodie has taken a heck of a lot of punishment over the years and is only really a small fringe world class featherweight who doesn't carry a huge dig.

He could last the distance with Gomez with his footwork but he'd need a special performance to beat him I reckon.

I saw Barry's response, and while most will agree I do not. I still believe Diego Corrales is one of the most overated champions out there. Not saying Gomez would beat him, but I think I would be more confident than if he faced Hernandez. Corrales is chinny (and I've been sorting out some video's and found one in which Barry states that Corrales has a great chin - after his fight with Juuko). He is also easy to hit.

I personally can't see winning a world title, but I wouldn't bracket Corrales with Morales. So if I was Jim I would choose Morales.

Yeah, I guess this is most people's opinion and I take your later point about going the Euro route.

There's something about Casamayor though...does anyone else think he is only a fight or two away from looking really OLD, if you know what I mean?

I thought he was definitely looking his age against Corrales last time out. The difference in performance between the first fight and the second, to me, can't just be explained by better tactics from Corrales. Yes that was part of it, but i think maybe one or two years ago he'd have been able to do something to turn the fight around.

If he fights to the same sort of standard as in that second Corrales fight next time he's in against someone decent he's going to get beaten badly. Depending on the way he looks in his next fight it might be the right time for Gomez to get him.

I think cassa wil be dragged into a punch up like he did with corrals the first time. If he was that great a boxer he'd have outboxed diego the secind time, or at least adapted and come close.

Michael Gomez would obliterate Erik Morales ! Michael Gomez would destroy Joel Casamayor ! Michael Gomez would savage Diego Corrales ! .............
I think i need to lie down......

You do, cos your mid is warped.

The others, Gomez could push hard, but Erik Morales, he has two hopes, no hope and BOB hope.

I dont think Gomez would be Arthur in a rematch let alone the other names being thrown about, Arthur had a bad day, but is still a great prospect, Gomez has been in too many wars and dropped too may fights to be seriously considered as a furtue world champion, not to mention that he just doesn't have the skills at that level.

As for Corrales being chinny, he had a huge hole in his face and awanted to continue, with a punch like his you can go down and if you have the heart to get up, nothing lost.
