You guys are missing the point - I'm not saying there are not great competitors, there are loads. My point is that as a specified collection of nations, it's outdated and in many ways irrelevant.

It's as spurious as having a specific championship for all countries that have an 'I' In their name. It's not about geography, it's basically 'former British territories' championship which is rather odd. Ps I assume Jamaica is a commonwealth country? If so, will Usain Bolt run?

Relatively meaningless is the grand scheme of things but they do get you a disspropotionately high level of coverage considering the quality of opponents, which is great for boxers.

A boxer from NI will struggle to get much mainstream coverage even if they win a European gold but will be front page news if they Commonwealth Games gold - but the I would suggest that it is a significantly greater achievement to win a gold at the Euros!

If they were to keep falling out with no repurcussions then fighters would spit them out for a little respite,i havent seen the fight but surely Selby must have had to make sure it was fitted proper so it wouldnt fall out when his mouth was open

Just watched it mate, he looked very frustrated by the whole thing. No way he did it on purpose IMO, why would he? I guess it comes down to poor preparation on his behalf and his team, but I felt he was winning the third easily for the first minute, a little bit of home town pressure on the ref by the crowd and the rest is history.

Fair enough if the guy is chasing you down the ring and you take a breather , that's a fair deduction. But not when you are on top and winning a close fight.

Its not a new rule and everyone knows this rule ,, The amerturish thing about it is he went into the fight with a ill fitting mouth guard , thats has bad has turning up for the weigh in over weight after drinking 15 pints . .. The difference with ameturs and pro's used to be one wore singlets and got a trophy , the other took the singlet off and got money ,, now they both get money and in the case of top ameteurs some get plenty , so this unprofesionalism , is unforgivable , he deserved it ,

Then again he could of been tired and spat it ouut on purpose , in which case he knows the rules .

It was a close fight but a think McFadden boxed a great fight ans was winning the fight regardless to the point deductions

I'm a Selby fan (of both brothers in fact). But Selby deserved at least one point deducted. You can't have your gum shield coming out that many times and not get penalised.

Is there a reason why they are not wearing head guards? I thought they always did or am I being dim?

New rules came in this year. Elite amateurs don't wear head guards, and scoring is based on the ten-point must.
Much improved in my opinion. Although cuts are obviously going to happen much more often, and that will stop some fights.

They take points off for spitting it out. He didn't spit it out, it fell out. Once he caught it before it fell out and the ref still took him back to the corner, jobsworth prick that he was.

The big problem was that it ruined the fight. It is also ridiculous that under the new scoring system, you lose the equivalent of a round for any infraction, in a 3-round fight. It gives the referee too much power, as there is no way back from a points deduction in such a short fight.
