Damn, in 2014 Haymon threw his fighters in the fire. So far in 2015, there have been many good fights and many bad ones.

If we get Garcia/Peterson and Broner/Mattysse after these fights, I don't have a problem with this strategy. Better yet, if the winner of those fights meet in 2016, this would have been one of the best 8 man (really 4 man) tournaments we've seen in a while.

I don't know why so many people in the industry are chastising Haymon. Arum has openly flaunted greed and bad matchmaking for years. That landed him as the sole controller of HBO for a few years. Garcia needed a run out, so did Peterson. Jacobs showed the difference in levels, he looked good, Fletcher was game. Andre Ward needs to be out versus it doesn't matter who.

I have no problem with this logic, but we shouldn't be having two "run outs" on the same card, especially not at the amount they are being paid.

I personally feel once your a world champion,there should be no more run outs,obviously every fight cant be a unification but opponents like Salka are killing the sport bit by bit

Its a shame on Rod Salka really as he's no doubt a good honest pro and people like him make boxing but coz he's just challenged for a world title,im tearing into him for killing boxing

Salka did what he could and though he's nothing to be ashamed of they ought to have found a stronger opponent. Why couldn't Garcia defend against a highly ranked fighter?

Even if you think DG and Peterson needed 'run outs' (wasn't Herrera supposed to be that for DG too), I don't see how such poor opponents were justified. I thought Salka was particularly poor considering how small he is.

It also doesn't help build a DG-AP fight when all people are talking about is how shitty the card was and not how they performed.

People talk about Chavez Sr. fighting tomato cans. Yes, that may be true, but Sr. fought every other month and in between the tomato cans he would fight, Rosario, Taylor, Camacho, Whitaker, etc. These guys here fight 1.5 times a year. And they want to fight garbage competition. I don't blame haymon or don king. I blame the self serving executives over at showtime and hbo who operate as if there was some kind of backdoor deal going on that would make sure they get a cut of the profits as long as they keep allowing haymond to run the networks into the ground. Hared to believe that showtime is the same network that gave us Tzyu vs Judah, Castillo vs Corrales, and Benn vs McClelland. None of these PPV. Same goes for HBO

Another caveat to "run outs"...they can't be once every 7 months, they are more like what Srisaket did when he was champion (those matches were bigger mismatches but the Thai system is hugely different to the US one)

Most of the old school guys feasted on weak opposition for most of their fights. However, they fought more often, which made a weak opponent or two, or twelve, less infuriating.
