This is the problem with boxing... This is a spectacular fight and like all small divisions, it doesn't get tv coverage outside the country it happens in. With all the greatest fights, foty and foty contenders happening in these weight classes, it's sad boxing fans aren't following them.
So stoked for this one... & Juan Francisco Estrada is fighting Lurch, er, Giovani Segura in DF the next day!
Been looking forward to these two fights for a looong time.
Got to add Tanaka Vs Hara to the great little men fights. Tanaka is "the next Naoya Inoue" (as STUPID as that sounds given that Inoue is a kid himself)

what exactly was interesting about the last few weeks?
Canelo vs Lara
Porter vs Brook
_____________________________________________________________________________________________
can-lara was super boring, one runner, one chaser, without anything spectacular happening in 12 rounds
porter vs brook was okay, nothing more

The top guys are millionaires who don't have to fight. The concept of glory is history. It's strictly business and that means the greatest return for the least possible risk. You want to see good fights, go to your local arenas and support the small promoters trying to keep the sport alive. At least those boxers give it their best and want to impress the fans.

The grudge rematch is a thing of the past. The Mayweather-Maidina snooze excepted. John Ruiz was boring enough, but I lost respect for him when he wanted no part of David Tua again. Norton demanded a rematch with Garcia because like you said, "The concept of glory is history," and in the day those guys were fighters.

Got to add Estrada v. Segura, which may well become a foty candidate. And Fury-Chisora rematch looks promising, as determined Dereck may well deck the big tree. Wlad fighting clear number one contender probably doesnt generate a lot of excitement, same as money-chino II, yet worth mentioning as solid fights, must see, imo. Its not all that bad

Are people forgetting that the 2 best heavyweights in the world (according to BoxRec) are fighting each other?

Golovkin at -11000??
At what point is it just not worth it to bet due to possibility of cuts/injury alone? Probably before -11000...

Ridiculous he was only -1000 vs Geale and Rubio might actually do better than Geale.

the lower level fights often have the best matchups, especially after guys get a loss or
two and aren't trying to protect an undefeated record anymore and willing to take
tough fights. sauerland actually matches good up and coming fighters against each
other pretty often. i think smith has more of a chance people are giving him against
abraham and it could turn out to be a good fight. although i don't think the undercard
of mayweather-maidana is really ppv caliber in terms of top guys, some of those
matchups could make good fights.
it's a little harsh to call matthysse's opponent this weekend a bum.

Are you implying that it's not a legitimate injury? If so, what information do you have to support that claim?

No, Leonard was rich before Hagler and Haglert was a risky fight, by no way the least risky fight.
I can expect from a world class boxer the same in terms of "giving the best", it is a mentality thing, mexicans or eastern euros got that, back than black americans were amongs the most vicious warriors with tyson, hagler or hearns, all super rich and all bad ass everytime, they had the mental of a fighter, now ward and mayweather
somebody like erik morales sure as hell was also a millionere and made a great amount of $$$$ every time he stepped into the ring and every sngle time, he gave his best. floyd often at the end of a fight in the after fight interview looks like a he is not even exhausted, like he was taking a walk in the park. and I ask myself, if you dominated your opponent easily, than why not try ones to TKO/KO to make it sensational? and at the end, even him, want to be admired and that the fans saw a great fight, but him making one boring fight another and than talking how great the fight was when 1000 fans left at 11 round.
sure money is important, but when you dont wanna get hit anymore and you got enough cash, than simply leave. ward is doing the right thing, he doesnt like to be punched in the face, he seems not a big spender, he made around 4 million, thats enough for a lifetime, when you dont waste your money like so many pro athletes. and than just stop boxing and you wont get punched anymore.
GGG, Kovalev, Thurman, thats the future of boxing, guys who want to bring action and arent scared of them receiving some punches.

I've had a couple people tell me that you don't recover from a bicep tear that quickly. The # of injuries especially in the HW division are too many to be believable. Evidence? People don't have evidence that Wilder-Scott wasn't legit but they say it anyway because that is what they believe.

It doesn't help that Yaegashi/Gonzalez is not getting any US TV coverage, and Estrada/Segura is only on beIN which is a channel very few people get.
Meanwhile, over on Showtime we get this joke of a card with Broner and Matthysse fighting no-hopers.
Major boxing networks, get your sh*t together.

Yes, Broner is fighting Taylor (the guy who lost to a snoozer to Algieri on FNF) and Matthysse is fighting some guy named Roberto Ortiz who has a glossy 31-0 record built entirely on bums.
I really cannot understand why Showtime would bother with this junk.

Trying to build a Broner vs Matthysse fight down the line maybe? Ala Garcia/Peterson.

I'm sure that's what they're trying to do, but I've never understood this idea in boxing that the best way to promote a big fight is to have the 2 guys fight crap opponents on the same card.
That Garcia/Peterson card is a great example. It was a complete shitbomb, I have no idea why they'd be trying to replicate it, or why Showtime would agree to televise another similar card.

Garcia and Peterson aren't even fighting. Showtime is a shill for Haymon at this point. Cracks me up when people applaud them, consistent garbage.

It depends on the severity of the tear but they can heal in just a few weeks. Boxing is a rough sport, injuries happen, and I don't see why this stands out as Wlad faking one to get out of or postpone a fight that he's heavily favored to win and already appeared to be in decent shape for going by recent images.
As for Scott-Wilder, it would be wrong for people other than Scott to act like they
know whether the KO was legitimate or not, as you seem to be doing with the injury, but being
suspicious based on what they saw is reasonable.

I fully agree, i can;t remember such a baron period for boxing. Froch Groves is looking like a diamond in he rough for this year. The big 2 stars in Pac & Floyd are setting the bar as low as they can and the rest are following suit. Boxing is killing itself.

Boxing is only killing it's self if you don't look at the lower weights. In the next few weeks we have some amazing bouts, heck this weekend is serving up 2 possible FOTY contenders but will get over-looked by the casual fans who can't be bothered to actually watch fighters at the lower weights.
In the lower divisions this year we've seen the emergence of Naoya Inoue (his win over Hernandez was excellent), Francisco Rodriguez Jr (his win over Takayama is a FOTY front runner), Oswaldo Novoa (his win over Zhong could be one of the upsets of the year), Sho Ishida, Kosei Tanaka and Paul Butler. We've seen brutal wars including the Rodriguez/Takayama bout and the Eto/Diale bout and the big upsets (Rodrigez Vs Sabillo, Novoa Vs Zhong).
If all you watch are the higher weights then you're really missing out sadly.
I will partially agree that boxing is killing it's self, but that's mostly US boxing killing it's self. The Japanese scene is ripe, the Mexican scene is great, Argentinian boxing is incredibly active and most wonderfully the Thai scene seems to be going through a major transitional period with alot of promising youngsters coming through.
The one thing more disappointing than US boxing right now is South Korean boxing which sadly seems to be dead (and from what I've heard their potential star, Ja Ik Goo, has retired after just 3 fights).
