Boxing fans are the absolute worst. Assuming whatever is the most negative thing they can about a situation without thinking if there is perhaps a more logical explanation. Anyone who thinks Quillin would vacate to duck Korobov is just completely ignorant of everything about boxing. For one thing, Korobov and Jacobs are almost exactly equally good, and Jacobs is the more dangerous puncher of the two, so it's preposterous to think that Quillin is targeting a significantly lesser fighter or less powerful fighter in Jacobs. Second, people act like Quillin would be fighting for fewer titles against Jacobs than Korobov; no, it's the same number of titles either way, win or lose (he gets one belt no matter who he beats and he gets zero belts no matter who he loses to). Third, an American fighting an American in America will almost invariably draw more money than an American fighting a Russian; I don't know how anyone gets so out of sorts that they think an approximately #10-ranked Russian middleweight is a bigger draw in America than an approximately #10-ranked American middleweight. Fourth, Haymon obviously has a fistful of reasons to keep Quillin's next fight in-house instead of cross-promotional (100% guarantee that the title stays in house, prevents Top Rank from benefiting financially, prevents a possible nemesis in Jay-Z from beating him in the boxing game, etc.). If the WBC mandated that Mayweather fight a Top Rank fighter, and 50 Cent or Bob Arum won the purse bid to promote that fight, then I guarantee you Mayweather would drop that title. Fifth, in the standard boxing political game, a champion's promoter can usually influence the sanctioning body on when the champ has to sign a fight and who the mandatory will be, regardless of what the by-laws say. In turn, that means that if a sanctioning body starts enforcing their by-laws only on you that they would normally bend for any other champ, then they have probably become your enemy (like the time the IBF stripped Chad Dawson in 2009 on some bogus sh*t about 2.5 months after his previous title defense). So the fact that the WBO was making numerous hard demands on Quillin like who and when he needs to sign by probably led Quillin's team to realize that it's time to get out of a bad relationship and get on board with a sanctioning body that will probably be more flexible with him.

Could he get more than $1.4 million fighting Jacobs ?

That's over three times his biggest purse to date.
If he gets equal or more for Jacobs fair game. Titles mean less & less these days & they mean less & less when you got a name. Idk that Peter gots a name, but than again idk that 160 is all that deep.

Do you think Quillin would make over $1.4 million against Jacobs?

I think Korobov would beat Saunders. Would be fairly close though I think. Very technical 'boxing match'.

Exactly. There are different Americans. Peter The Undercard Quillin will not draw any crowds.

Is there some beef between Al & Jay Z that I'm unaware of? I don't see how the analogy is relevant otherwise. Maybe it'd be like if Floyd had to fight a TR fighter & Lou DiBella won the purse bid as Roc Nation seems like a impartial third party to me. If Peter made this decision because of Al's boxing business he still deserves all the bad press he'll get from this situation. If he gets equal or better money than okay I see the upside, but he'll still deserve the bad press he'll get regardless if this is the reason.

If Haymon needs Quillin to not follow through with a Jay-Z promoted fight against a Top Rank fighter, then Haymon will probably find a way to make it up to Quillin, eventually if not all at once. Quillin - Jacobs will probably gross enough money that Haymon can make it happen if he takes less of a cut or something. I'm sure that boxers could make more than they make if promoters didn't take as big of a cut, and that's probably why Jay-Z is capable of offering $1.4 million if he takes a sufficiently small cut, and Haymon could possibly make it happen too if he takes a small enough cut. A small cut is still more than Haymon would make if he wasn't promoting a Korobov fight at all.

Didn't you read that story about Al Haymon and Matthew Knowles conspiring to screw Beyonce out of money, and Beyonce turning around and suing Haymon? Follow-up question, you're aware that Jay-Z and Beyonce have been married for like six years? and then Jay-Z is making a move and outbidding everyone to promote Haymon's fighter's fight. Then Haymon's fighter drops the belt to not fight on Jay-Z's card. So I mean... I don't think I'm going too far out on a limb here.

Maybe people from other places wouldn't understand, but I don't think a Quillin/Jacobs fight at the Barclays would be a main event. Both of these guys could walk around 97% of New York City and not turn one head. The combined purse of such a fight would likely be under a million.

I really don't understand what this move was about. Was it GBP/Haymon's way of sticking in to the Jay-Z promoter shit?

The only logical reason I could see for this move is a Quillin/Alvarez fight in December. But, I'm sure we're all hoping for Kirkland/Alvarez.

I wonder if Quillin even makes 1.4 million over the remaining years he has left on his career. I am sure he feels bummed out right now..and torn for not accepting the fight.

Very strange move from Quillin's team. Why couldn't he take the massive payday and still fight Jacobs down the road, it's not like Jacobs v Quillin is a PPV event or even a big fight outside of NY.

Dunno if that was aimed at me, mate?

People are asking questions, I'm at a loose-end so am ranting about why--in my opinion, of course--things are like they are.

I only have this shite to focus on because no pudendum will talk to me about Latino & Asian flyweights, about which I am prepared to discourse at greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat length.

The problems is the number of belts per sanctioning body
It allows a boxer to be flexible and pick these fights.
We all know GGG is teh WBA champ and Jacobs in a paper champ.
Yet it allows fights to drop belts easier with interim and reg titles

I think as a sanctioning body they should be a clause if a boxer drops a belt to fight a boxer in a different belt without unifying, he should be BANNED from fighting for any belts in the sanctioning body again i.e WBO.

We all know quillin could have faced jacobs after korobov!!!!! unify like froch has reg wba and ibf belt
