Has Mayweather ever ran a promotion out from under the umbrella of Golden Boy?
Not one Floyd has fought on, but yes they have outside of Nevada.
Small time shows headlines by the likes of J'leon Love?
Do you think Floyd has the promotional ability to run the kind of PPV mega-event he himself fights on, and what Showtime expect? I think the answer is no, or he would be doing it himself already.
If Oscar has jumped into bed with Bob Arum & HBO, to me it looks like the endgame for ShowTime PPV's. Pacquiao, Cotto, Canelo, all HBO. Who else other than Floyd realistically has PPV selling power? The only other name outwith them i recall fighting on a PPV lately was Marquez vs Bradley.
He certainly has the capability, he just didn't want too. Paying GBP 10 million to handle the tedious process was worth it to him. He can obviously just hire somebody else. Then he got the guaranteed money and didn't have to do a thing but fight. Showtime is thrilled, not sure why anyone would believe otherwise.

I heard on Tha Boxing Voice that numbers were slightly up from the first fight. Could be complete BS

That's next level sh*t.
Canelo basically lost to Lara. He needs a softer opponent to get back his confidence. One fight like that is fine.

I think those numbers came from kevin Iole and his middle name is bullshit.

I don't see how a close controversial win over one of the better fighters in the world, would be cause for lining up a tomato can.
Is Saul so mentally fragile that he needs to headline Vs a heavybag, in order to feel good about himself?
I don't think he is. You do apparently, though.
This is nothing more than a place holder fight so that a larger future date/big fight isnt in danger.
Saul's fine mentally. He needs no confidence boost. He's simply doing what his people are having him do.
But trying to sell Clottey as a legitimate threat, is something that'll be fun to see.
That's the beauty of this here sport, though. Or the absurdity of it. Either-Or.

Agreed, Canelo lacks stamina and work rate. One thing he has in abundance is confidence. This comes down to what you said and they also don't want to saturate him on PPV. If it's on 'regular' cable it isn't going to be a risk.

I don't think Clottey is much of a threat but he's not a tomato can either. He's certainly better opposition than the guys that Garcia, Peterson, Broner, and Mattysse were matched with on Showtime recently.

I wouldn't call Clottey better opposition than anyone. He's still tainted, for me.
I don't begrudge Canelo at all for fighting him, but I have only laughter for anyone claiming Clottey is any kind of legitimate threat. He's going to show up, hold his guard in place for 12 rounds, and then collect his purse.

Am I the only one that hasn't seen Clottey fight in 4 or 5 years? Beating Mundine makes him world class? The last time I saw him he looked 100 years old. I'd expect worse now.

He may not be worse than shot Angulo.

Why do you say Clottey is "tainted"?
I think a lot of people (myself included) thought the same about him for the Mundine fight (that he'd be happy to lose on points and get a paycheck) but he went out there and beat Mundine's ass. I don't think he'll beat Canelo but I prefer him to the usual B-list suspects like like Karass, Rosado, etc.

I would resent to saying the same about Rosado. He wasn't scared of Golovkin and gave him a fight and he would probably beat Quillin if not that cut.

Yea maybe I'm too harsh on Rosado, he just seemed like another guy with a decent name that promoters like to bring in to put a win on a top guy's record. He seemed like a real contender at 154 before moving to 160 and picking up a bunch of losses.

Gabe is an honest performer and a tough guy. Not an elite fighter by any stretch of the imagination.

He could give a tough fight to Canelo, especially closer to 160.

Nah, canelo is too strong for him.
