Does every bill need to be looked at in isolation ?

In the dark days of a previous promoter on sky I cancelled my sky because of consistently shit match ups. I'm considering going the same way again. I was full of hope in Eddies early days but it seems now his feet are under the table that standards have slipped in a big way.

The fight is doable on a normal 2 hour Fight Night show. Padding it out for three and a half hours and putting on expensive big names justifies PPV in Eddies head. There is no need for Quigg or McDonnell to be defending on this card, the tickets would have gone anyway.

All started going this way when sky scrapped the friday fight night format (trade fights, good domestic dust ups for the Euro or Lonsdale nothing else, no name vs foreign dude for inter continantal shite) and went in favour of longer shows in bigger arena's to attract the TOWIE type crowds.

Reduce the costs of the show. A good olace to start would be to tell Bellew, Cleverly etc they are worth X amount, if they dont like it the fight does not happen, end off.

Its not a PPV fight, full stop.

I have heard that it wasn't Eddie's decision if it was PPV or not - don't know how true that is though and whether he wouldve still wanted it PPV anyway

Hearn is blaming it on boxers greed but that does not add up. Bellew and Cleverly are not big stars, they are in no position to dictate, they are worth X amount off of PPV, if they dont accept that the fight should not happen.

I personally think this is more about Hearn testing the water, if he can get a good profit out of this event we can expect many a repeat of sub par PPV events.

Someone posted on another thread that Cleverly did a radio interview where he agreed it wasn't even a PPV fight, so I doubt he'd have caused much of a fuss about his purse, and I've never heard of Bellew being particularly demanding about his purses either.

I'd be amazed if Cleverly & Bellew were the cause of this - even if they were demanding huge amounts, I'm sure Hearn is big enough not to be dictated to by his boxers.

The decision to make this fight PPV can only have been made by Sky & Hearn. I don't blame them for trying to make some extra money, but there's only so far you can push your customers before they decide it's not worth the money & turn their back altogether.

I have been saying (along with everyone else) that the Sky shows are getting shittier & shittier by the week. Now they are coming up with what was acceptable a year for free ago & parcelling up as a PPV.
Pretty similar to what retail companies do when they make something smaller for the same price & charge more for the previous version!

I agree with the comment about the fright night fights, i use to watch these growing up and were all decent nights, even if they were according to Hearn fights in leisure centres, which hes said in a few IFL interviews which i thought were a bit out of order personally.

Hearn is probably doing really well for the sport when it comes to the fighters at match room hes probably making them more money than anybody else would out there. He's also making a lot of big nights which are pulling in a lot more casual fans than sky would of without him. This doesn't mean sky's coverage is actually any good for a boxing fan though, i think its really poor all in all especially the people who present it etc, not that this is all Hearns fault.

I'm so grateful of allegedly a lot of people slag it off i see but the coverage for boxing fans is brilliant, if allegedly wasn't about and sky was the only platform for boxing it would be a very poor state of affairs i feel, most of the time i look forward more to some card in the states with a couple of fighters i know nothing about than i do a sky card where don't get me wrong there's decent fighters on the card but most of them are in easy warm ups and easy come back fights, and there's one 50/50 on the whole bill. A lot of the decent fights on sky seem to come from fighters that aren't actually match room fighters for example Ryan vs Nurse which was on Saturday, I'm not 100 percent but I'm sure there not actual match room fighters, and a lot of the better fights recently have come from fighters who don't seem to be as well.

Will he be getting a cut of the PPV revenue ?
Will Bellew ?
Let's assume 50k (I think it will do a lot more) sales at 16.95 = £847,500
Ticket sales 10k at an average of 60.00 = £600,000
With sponsorship etc will hit £1.5mill gross.

I won't believe those figures until expe has checked them over, ran them through his algorithm and given the thumbs up.....

I can't believe they will get anything like 50000 PPV buys for this bill, it is basically a card you can see every Saturday night and no household names that can be used to publicise it.

No-one's saying the fighters won't be paid - just that they wouldn't be in a position to demand larger purses than they would have already received for previous fights under FW/Matchroom, none of which were on PPV.

Alot of talk on here about Haye vs Joshua... last I checked, Haye has been talking to Top Rank about getting fights under them, so that he can position himself to getting a title fight against the Stiverne/Wilder winner...

Yeah exactly that all in arena's watching the bigger names fighting walk overs all the time. rubbish.

Promoters ,at the top, have been strangling the life out of professional boxing since the early 1960's.How many people in Britain today earn a living solely from boxing ? Very few.

If you think about how much money ,from every source, has been spent on boxing in this country since January ,by the public, what percentage of that 'cake' has Eddie Hearn eaten, followed closely by SKY. I reckon that the Groves v Froch fight generated £15 million from PPV alone. I guess that the gate money paid all the purses and the costs of hiring Wembley etc.

And now they two of them are squeezing more money out of us all. All I can do personally is refuse to buy it , and that's what I'll do, and to be honest ,and I know I might have to re-consider, but at the moment I'll NEVER buy a PPV event again, and here's hoping BT outbid SKY for the Premiership rights next year.

To be fair to Hearn he has a large stable and some of them he will just stick on a bill versus a 'Teak Tough" South American to get some rounds. I actually think If i was a fighter in his stable I would question whether it was the right place to be. If I was a Super Middleweight I would potentially have Froch, Degale, P Smith, C smith and fielding ahead of me in his plans. For example Degale is basically going to end up doing what suits Froch and Hearn, which might not be best for him.
