Why does no-one makes the point "when has power ever beaten Hopkins?" All people talk about is Kov's power but in all of BHop's losses, have they ever been down to power?

Pavlik has NEVER sparked a fighter with a jab to the body, Kovalev has.
Not only is he the strongest fighter that Hopkins will have ever faced he may be the most accurate too.
I don't see this as a great night for Hopkins.

Indeed, Kovalev and Pavlik are leagues apart in terms of power. Kovalev would knock out alot of heavyweights.

It's funny reading how all the Kovalev fans here claim they're fans of the sport of boxing but only defends him while saying nothing good about BHop, they forget how a nobody in Darnell Boone confounded and took Kovalev the distance and made him look ordinary.
We will soon see how so called skillful Kovalev is, sure he can punch, sure he has power but so did Trinidad and Tarver and neither of them did any damage when they connected.
I like Kovalev but I just don't see him brining anything to the table that BHop hasn't already seen but Hopkins have seen many fighters like Kovalev (none had his power though) but Sergey's skill level is nothing exceptional or new.

Hopkins fought Trinidad 13 years ago, and he fought Tarver 8 years ago. Do you really believe that Bernard is an Alien and age doesn't do anything to him ?
Nobody says that Sergey's skills are exceptional. Some of them are good, some of them are very good, but combined with his power, they are too much for a 50-year old to handle.

Wow you have entirely too much anger!! I never stated BHop's age wasn't a factor, I just don't see Kovalev having the same type of rapid fire output that Calzaghe had, plus he is nowhere near Joe's speed level so I don't think this will be a fight based on what happened between Nard and Calz.
If Kovalev had the speed and fought at a pace like Calzaghe's then I could see this fight going his way, especially with the type of power he has but he is nowhere near the league of Joe's speed or output therefore he will be allowing the old man too much time to think and get comfortable.

The point of that was that I consider Boone a far lesser skilled fighter than Hopkins and nowhere near his level on defense, but I started watching it before you were born son.

I'll accept any challenge from someone who calls themselves a "boxing" fan but has the name FloydtheDuck, sounds like either an immature butthole or a 13 year old little girl posing as a boy.
Kova's trunks were red, I only answered because I know you didn't watch the fight kid.

the Trunks were not RED
good guess though, guess you could have went with Black from recent fights as well
so you still gonna pretend like you saw the fight?
no you're going by just the decision it states here on boxrec
you have no clue what happened
you know what sounds like an immature butthole? or a 13yo girl?
someone basing their information off something they read online.
or some super fan ( in this case hopkins), who's so scared their man is gonna get annihilated on fight night, the only thing that helps him survive throughout the day is diminishing his opponent

I think Hopkins is smart enough to pick a fight he really thinks he can win; he is not the average boxer and I don't think he will mess with Kovalevs head but I think he will slow the action and avoid many of the missiles.
I'm looking forward to the bout, there is no doubt at all that Kovalev has unusual power and he seems in grand condition to throw for 12 rounds. If Hopkins does beat him fair and square then it has to be seen as a major victory.

I can only find a very brief and low quality clip of Boone flooring Stevenson, and I can't find any footage from Kovalev-Boone I.

Nah...no KO and no DQ. I say bhop can headbutt and cut Kova. Tough fight to call bc Hopkins is tough as hell. ATG chin. ATG defense. I see Kova staying too busy ala Calzaghe and winning UD

BAD INTENTIONS wrote:Why does everyone seem to forget one of Hopkins biggest wins ... against the BIGGER Antonio Tarver.
This topic is purely stupid. Hopkins will come to fight and win. Sick of people trying to blow Hopkins dirty tactics out of proportion. Hopkins has beaten every opponent with skill. Every once in a while he does something shady, but it's 95% footwork, defense, and sneaky right hands.
But whatever, there are two types of Hopkins haters. The first just hate him and try to diminish his skills. The second type don't know boxing well enough to see his effectiveness.
once in awhile he does something dirty??? now that is the understatement of the new century.

Sergey Kovalev's power is the real deal. This is a very dangerous fight for an aging B-Hop. The man is damn near 50 and Krusher's trainer is adamant that he batters Hopkins like his age would suggest.
Can B-Hop turn back the clock one more time? We'll see.

To the OP, yeah, I think you're right. When Calzaghe stepped up, Hopkins started acting, hitting low, trying to spoil

"I took a lot of headbutts. Like I said though, he's a dirty fighter. It's what we worked for, we knew he was going to headbutt. He hit me with like eight headbutts. I kept my composure, but it was obvious that he was doing it on purpose."

I would imagine that Kovalev and his team are excited about this fight but also slightly worried. Hopkins is tried and tested to say the least, whereas despite a decent amateur career, Kovalev is just arriving at this higher level. Certainly Hopkins has beaten more skilled boxers before. Of course Kovalev's power could decide the match, but they will need to be ready with a plan B if the ususl hit the arms, hit anything approach is getting him outboxed the time. And nobody knows if Kovalev's stamina over 12 rounds is strong or just average. I would imagine youth may be served but I wouldn't want to wager any large amounts of cash on that assumption.

Logic like this will be rejected on this forum of today's so called "boxing fans", all that matters is that Kovalev can punch and to them it automatically spells KO or BHop is in trouble.
But that's today's boxing fans; you're shot if you lose one fight, you're over the hill if you are slowing down despite getting older, you aren't testing yourself unless you move up in weight.
